Thomas Kolb(And for everybody else with knowledge about the different versions of the Yak-12, yes, I am aware of the differences between the A-version in the kit and the R-version used by the Hungarian People's Army. But since I am not able to scratch build the entire wing and empennage structure, let's just call it artistic license.)

This kit is actually not quite as bad as some other Amodel kits I have built - the designers have created some pretty nifty solutions here! If anything, it is a bit unforgiving - make one small mistake and you can be sure that it will keep coming back to kick you.

The Ju 86 which were seen in 2 different Austrian markings, but at the end was never part of the Airforce. Here the overall silver Ju86 #311 at the airshow in Vienna-Aspern in early 1937.

Juergen KlinglhuberThe mention aircraft was sent to the Airshow in Aspern as a "demonstrator" in austrian marking. Austria was interessed in buying 18 Ju86K-7. Due to several reasons Junkers was not prepared for that airshow and on short note removed the markings of an 86K-2 that was already prepared to be sold to Sweden. They put on austrian markings, a service number #311 and flew it over to Austria for just this one day. Flight captain Behrendt did a good job and the aerobatic air-display was a great success. So far so good. Why I am telling this? 86-K2 is a differend engine and cowling. The box is a 86E1/2. Aftermarket conversion products are out there (Kora) .....I had difficulties to locate/buy some.
Therefore: it is Scratchbuilding time again !!! 😎

This bird was for sure not that worn as it went to the airshow more or less fresh from the manufacturer." But the more looked at it the more I was okay with the result. NicolasDon't worry Juergen, even on new airplanes there are sometimes clear visual differences in the sheet metal. For example, some manufacturers deburr the rivet holes with a grinding machine, the sheets are made of different alloys or are applied with different rolling directions, all of which have an influence on the appearance. I like it.

Can anyone recommend a good white paint, l been using the Vallejo brand, but it is quite translucent!! And takes a ridiculous amount of coats to have nice bright coverage.
My other Vallejo paint are nice but the yellow n white are very see-throgh .
I prefer acrylic's but will use enamel if it solves problems.

W SzczecinskiI'm using Tamiya acrylics white (and also yellow). Sadly due to the color specifics (or pigments) it's realy hard to achieve a perfect coverage in just one coat. AmmoMig OneShot Primer white gives nice white finish.

W SzczecinskiI love working with Tamiya acrylic paints as they are very easy to brush on and very forgiving when airbrushed. Color choice is limited but this is when and where other brands come handy. My first choice to go for would be Ammomig and or AK Real Colors. Ammo comes in bottles ready to be airbrushed straight away where AK (and tamiya) need to be thinned before airbrushing. Oh, Mr Color/GunMetal is also worth noting.

I watched a long video on YouTube....it was testing lots of different White's from different companies. AK Intense white came out in top 3,
I got a bottle and it's been fantastic, l do X2 coats n it's done... Night n day difference from Velejo White,
I'm generally happy with Velejo, but the white n yellow are bit poor.
I have Tamiya Yellow, but is bit thick !!
Is it true you can thin Tamiya with Isopropanol??

Im going to be building the IAR-80 soon and has yellow in-it... Luckily it's a pale yellow.

For those who wish to assemble this model, it will be necessary to plan a little surgery on the main landing gear bays.
Other than that, I will say that the kit is better than Italeri or Fujimi but that's just my opinion. The level of detail is much higher than the other two

Dearest readers,
For those who would like to build this model but are not happy about having to open the gear hatches, you should know that these famous hatches can be closed on the ground. Yesterday, I found a photo which attests to the thing in the book "lock on" by Verlinden. These hatches are closed manually by the ground mechanics during a prolonged stop of the plane, a sort of storage, this avoids FOD. Of course, this is very rare, but nevertheless it is possible. Also, it's up to you 😉

Palo MBeautiful work so far, especially love the paint scheme with tan nose - that's what I'd like to build as well. I found some pictures with the "NE" on tail in the same paint scheme, so hope to avoid aftermarket decals. Just got the same kit, so have to follow this thread 🙂

Trumpeter's decals are very crude, especially the lettering. The roundels are all the same size while in reality the wing roundels are larger than those on the fuselage. If you can, get the KA-6D intruder decals from Italeri which are printed by Cartograf.

@Harry : i would Say that neither is perfect. The Trumpeter one is much detailled but the italeri IS not so Bad . I would say you need a box of each to make a nice intruder. From Italeri you Can get the decals, the wheels, the main Gear doors, the ordonnance...
That's why i bought two New italeri intruders 😂

Music_OnThere are a lot of amazing models here on Scalemates.com, but yours is exceptional! Little things like making sure the forward landing gear doors are correctly opened for the "cold" state of the jet, the hydraulic lines, etc., not to mention immaculate finish. At first glance I thought it was 1/48! I hope you compete this at a show, it's a winner for sure!
