WOW, WOW and a couple of extra WOW's!
Amazing result Frank. Without doubt the best Golblin model I've ever seen.
I bet Halberd Models would love to use your photos for their marketing.
1 11 March, 09:44

It looks so weird but very nicely done - superb craftmanship 😆
1 11 March, 10:21

Very well built and finished. I wonder how they ever thought this would be a viable fighter.
1 11 March, 11:42

Thank you very much mates!
I added two new pictures with the protection bow and securing fabric belt. I added also dust pigments to the wheels what I forgot before.
11 March, 18:26

Outstanding work in traditional Bughunter style! And done, in what I find, an unbelievable time frame 👍
2 11 March, 18:31

Alec K said it for me. There's nothing to add. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Actually I have something to add - great photos! 👍
1 11 March, 19:04

What a wonderful feedback - Thank you very much to each of you 👍
gorby - your guess was right! It will appear on the Facebook page of Halberd Models 🙂
Yes Alec, I've been working on it all day - 24 hours a day! And because there wasn't enough time, I added the night. 😎 Joking aside, yes I spend a lot of time. And this winter was very warm here without snow/ice, so my airbrush sessions was not blocked by the iced roof window.
2 11 March, 21:43

Of course I had to come over and check out the glamour photos. Beautiful build and wonderful photography, as always. Such a cool build of a really unique subject
1 12 March, 01:15

The photos are well done to show off this stunning and unique build.
1 12 March, 01:38

Frank, you did a great job! I have no choice but to agree with the previous posts. And frankly, when your name appears on a project, we know in advance what kind of result we can expect 😉
Congratulations on the successful completion of this interesting model!
1 12 March, 10:47

Oh boy... I hope I can get my special hobby somewhere near this... a real stunner
1 12 March, 11:34

Excellent work as usual. I still think this is an ugly plane though. Whoever designed it must have been on a bad trip.
2 12 March, 13:34

Another big Thank you all for your kind words!
@Skyhiker The design was made under strict requirements: it had to fit into the bomb bay of the B-36! Therefore folded wings were a must, the multiple control surfaces at the tail as well and of course the hook is the visible area of the pilot. It also needs actuators for the wing and hook, four guns with ammunition and fuel, all of which need space in the short fuselage - so there was no other way than this egg design. The design was good enough to achieve good performance figures - the "only" problem was the strong turbulence from the mother plane, so it was assumed that a normal pilot would not be able to hook on back.
4 12 March, 14:05

That's one of the reasons it's one of my favourite aircraft. It's remarkable they managed to fit so much into such a small aircraft. I think it's an amazing design.
1 12 March, 15:08

gorby, the unique design and the look (together with the carrier) invited me to buy and tackle this kit.
If anyone would like to see this model live - this weekend is your chance! I will be showing it, along with others, at my club's exhibition in Ergolding here:
11. Bayerische Modellbautage (15. and 16. March, Ergolding DE)
It would be nice to see you there!
1 13 March, 17:53

Thank you Bernhard! Coming from a master like you this means a lot!
Do you want to see it on the EME in Lingen?
14 March, 21:50

I absolutely love it. It is such an odd subject but you certainly did it justice.
1 14 March, 22:48

Thank you very much mates!
The little Goblin aroused a certain amount of interest at the exhibition today so it will travel with me to the EME 😉
2 15 March, 19:42

Thanks mates!
Yes Tom, this little jet will be there!
After coming home from our exhibition this evening, I decided to leave my models packed up for the EME in Lingen.
2 16 March, 19:40

It looks like I was the first one who finished the 1:48 version of the kit, so this model is now also on the Facebook page of Halberd Models, together with link to Scalemates 👍 And I got a very very kind feedback. Thanks to the folks at Halberd Models for creating this kit!
3 17 March, 21:37

That is very cool Frank!! First one. And you've set the bar extremely high!!
1 18 March, 09:14

Kyle, I hope, it will generate more interest and I'm sure some more will follow, may be more in 1:32.
1 18 March, 18:08

I am following along with a 1/32 build on our forum at the moment!! Also very neat to follow along with.
1 18 March, 20:48

Thank you very much for your lovely comments!
Michael, perhaps you weren't expecting such a topic from my bench, but I have broadened my interests a little 🙂
1 21 March, 18:33

How did I miss this one before? Amazing result bughunter! Your work with intricate tiny details always makes me green with envy. I get fumble fingers trying to put things like tiny PE buckles on and you make it look easy.
1 21 March, 20:26

Thank you John four your comment!
It's clear that you can easily overlook a jet project if you only expect biplanes from me 😉
21 March, 21:21

After a great weekend at the Euro Model Expo in Lingen, I'm now back home after a long trip.
The little Goblin won the gold medal for 1:48 aircraft in the Master class in the Euro Model Expo 2025 contest. 🙂
4 31 March, 17:15

Many thanks to you all for these kind words!
@Tim Many thanks for the visit to my booth, the discussions and the opportunity to explain my models. It was a pleasure!
1 31 March, 19:59

TBH - no remotely surprising Mr Bug, all your work is stellar! Well done, Sir
1 1 April, 00:33

That one actually existed, and it looks amazingly like an Egg kit. Very nicely done, I like it! Thanks for showing it.
1 1 April, 08:13

I had the opportunity to see the model live in Lingen last weekend. It is a piece of jewelry and it can even fly! 🙂
1 1 April, 08:18

Dang, major fomo here… congratulations on the recognition, it is certainly deserved 👍
1 1 April, 12:01

Well deserved award, Frank! 👍
Agrippa 😄 that leads to the question of what would an egg plane kit of this already egg shaped plane look like?
3 1 April, 12:14

OMG mates, your overwhelming feedback leaves me speechless! Thank you very much to everyone ❤️️
@John and Agrippa: an egg of an egg - does its end as ball? 😄
1 1 April, 14:41

Frank, congratulations! And I wish you this award! Without any doubt, it is well deserved.

Made some progress on the Wingsy Kits Bf 109 E-1. It is really a lovely kit, very nice to build.
19 July 2024, 06:05

Slow progress over the past weeks, but I now managed to finalize most of the airframe and rescribe the typical panel lines on the rear fuselage upper and lower spine.
21 October 2024, 16:32

Started the preshading. One needs a quiet day and move slowly along.

Cockpit detailing finished and primed/RLM66
Started riveting with the new tool I bought at EME in Lingen
31 March 2024, 13:04

Ok, riveting is time-consuming but also relaxing. I gave the wing a wash to check the result. Looking good so far. I just hope that it will be still visible after paint job
9 April 2024, 18:34

Made some progress on the small E381 fighter to be carried by the 234.
17 July 2024, 19:08

Finished the E381. Just some light panel line wash, no chipping or fading, as this was more or less a one-time flyer...
21 July 2024, 09:48

Today I began the painting process for the 234. Sprayed RLM66 on the canopy and also used this for preshading of the upperside. Preshading of the underside was done with Intermediate Blue. I tried these colours instead of the usual black to obtain less contrast to the base coats and make it blend better. Hopefully...
17 August 2024, 19:08

3 hours of masking the splinter camo. I hope I did not forget anything 😱
25 August 2024, 12:51

With the engine outlets and canopy frames done, painting comes to an end. Especially the latter was very tedious in terms of masking. But I am satisfied with the result 😃
11 September 2024, 20:14

Decals are on. Next step panel line wash to bring out all the rivets I made.
19 September 2024, 15:51

Geiles Ding, will den auch bauen👍 Great cockpit detailing!
19 September 2024, 16:27

Very nice. Amazing detail on the cockpit, looks impressive.
I have 2 old Ar 234 in progress, but the cockpits, or should I say lack of, that came with the kit just don't compare. I did a bit of scratch building, but just so something could be seen.
Question - what size wire did you use for the cockpit?
2 October 2024, 19:24

Very beautiful model! I really like it, especially the riveting and the cockpit. Did you treat the cockpit windows in any way, or are they straight out of the box? That would surprise me with Revell, to be honest 😉
3 October 2024, 12:33

The canopy had some scratches, so I sanded and polished it a bit.
@William: it is copper wire, but I do not know the size. I will measure it and get back to you.
@all: thanks for the nice comments ❤️
3 October 2024, 18:57

@William: I realized that I still owe you an answer regarding the copper wire: it is 0.1 mm in diameter.

Hi, looking good and nothing to complain about. I would just recommend to clean and blend in your wash a bit.
I´m using the same varnish and it doesn´t feel that smooth most time so im probably doing something wrong myself.
So sometimes im using 3000er sandpaper after it. What color did you use? I want to build a Merkava sometime "soon" too.
1 16 February, 12:32

There is news regarding our beloved plastic modelling from the European Union. No, it is not to be banned, but adjustments are being demanded with regard to environmental friendliness. It is about the ratio of the often few parts (not a problem in itself) in relation to the gigantic amount of moulding sprues that end up in the waste! It is obvious that the new large 1:16 kits will be particularly affected.
Innovative manufacturers such as Eduard are already working on appropriate procedures. The process itself is not new, and there is already literature on the subject, e.g. here (Please see the description about the many advantages!)
link.springer.com/ch../978-94-009-4946-1_4
The practical problems in our field are more likely to be how to label the parts and then reference them in the manuals. It will also be more difficult to check used kits for completeness if all the parts are tumbling around in the boxes without moulding sprues. Small parts in particular, such as those for 1:700 scale ships, will also be easier to lose.

1 April, 16:32

Thanks gorby! The next one I build will probably be scratch built. This one was a little tight fitting and the thin brass masts were very prone to bending. I think it would actually be easier to scratch build the masts, etc. and have more control over the dimensions of the subject and the bottle.

Hi Mates. This kit was bought to me by Santa (I mean seriously, I wasn't expecting this one!) and I decided to start it as soon as possible. I would like to ask for Your advice - model includes piece of transparent plastic to use as windows. Any tips on how to glue transparent parts and masked them? Usually I attach transparent parts at the end of assembly but this time it won't be possible.
6 March, 17:53

Plastic cement can creep onto clear parts and turn them cloudy. In the past I used tiny amounts of super glue on a few contact points. I have now switched to a dedicated acrylic glue for clear plastic parts. For painting I place masking tape on the clear part and cut off the excess tape that's not on the clear part.
7 March, 01:07

I can recommend wood glue - it glues clear when dry and can be reomoved without any issues if something went wrong.
7 March, 09:01

Thanks for the advice Mates! I decided to use wood glue, as You told. I used it for other purposes before and I really find it very useful.

It seems so, Andy. I hope he can pick up the project before the GB ends. I have several projects stopped for not being able to attend to them now, such as the DH.88 or the U-2. But they will all come to an end, sooner or later.
The last thing I did was strip the paint to repaint due to the harsh orange peel effect the yellow had when I put on the sand colored base coat. It is not appreciated in the pics, but that was not pleasing to the eye.
Simon, thanks for your comment 🙂

Welcome aboard Spanjaard.
I've decided I'm going to represent the plane putting out a wild fire. For that I will need to make the plane with the gear up and flaps down, wich the kit doesn't include an option for neither. I'm also going to make it with the water door open, so plenty of scratch builds for this project. It's going to be a long one again

Funny detail I learned while doing this project. This version of the plane, Wich is the first one ever made, mounted the same engine as the Corsair. Although not even half as detailed as the one that I made in the same scale last year
1 8 February, 19:37

Welp, my compressor broke mid painting the yellow. Time to order a new one 😞. I'll have to hold the build for the moment. If I get the time maybe I'll start with the diorama base.
1 9 February, 20:38

I bult this kit as a kid. I love the improvements you've added. Best of luck with the new compressor 😉 .
1 9 February, 21:28

Those hatches and the water tank structure look amazing 👍
I'm so sorry about the broken compressor 🙁
Does the landing gear have the option to leave it in the raised position or did you modify it in some way?
1 10 February, 20:38

Thank you guys!! I finally mage to fix the compressor so, one thing out of the way 😄😄.
And cuajete unfortunately no it doesn't. I had to look for pictures and videos of the landing gear up to modify it to look as close as possible. The wheels are going to end up a little higher on the bay because the suspension is modeled as it were compressed, if it were raised it would be a little longer but could find a way to make that looking good. But overall the final result I think is quite convincing.
2 11 February, 20:28

Yellow done. It the first and last time I paint something pure yellow. What a nightmare. Didn't take any picture because I was so stressed out 😅😅😅.
I'll update once I start putting the red and black colors on the plane
Also I don't know if it's something with this kit, or with every 215 kit from heller. But it had a lot of flush, pretty fragile parts, and a lot of warping in some large pieces. Also something I dislikeed a lot, none of the large surfaces as the wings, body, or elevators had any holes or fittings to join them together, so basically had to fiddle and pray the glue hardened with the pieces in the right place.
2 19 February, 20:10

Welcome guys! A little more work done, looking better now. Only black paint and decals left prior to weathering.
1 25 February, 22:42

Some work getting done. Paint job is finished with the decals applied. I'll start weathering soon. I'll try a new technic with salt to weather the plane to a sun damage paint. Once I finish the plane, I'll start another little project to test my diorama skills before going for this one, that's going to be huge.

Thank you, Bernhard...
I started building several years ago, when neither SBS nor KP kits existed.
At a certain point I gave it up and recently bought the KP kit, but now I've thought "why not try to finish it and then do the KP kit?"
16 May 2020, 19:35

Wohhoo count me in... That really demands hammer and chisel..
Great progress and effort so far Cuajete.. 👍
23 May 2020, 18:13

Many thanks, mates 🙂
Daniel, this kit is made for masochists like me 😄
23 May 2020, 18:47

Good effort Cuajete and a good example of how to make a silk purse from a pigs ear 🙂
I particularly like the screw being used for the engine cylinder😉
but that scratch built cockpit in 1/72 is impressive work !
23 May 2020, 20:26

Oh man, you're doing an excellent job. I'm building mine just oob, and I think all that putty is more expensive than the kit.
23 May 2020, 22:37

Thank you for your words, Choppa Nutta, Bill and Christoph. I'm glad you like it.
@Christoph Kunz, I still have putty to spend, but I think I will need all the Tamiya production for this perverse little kit 😄
24 May 2020, 18:20

New pics upload.
The current state is only a test. It won't be like this. I have to find a definitive solution in the canopy.
7 June 2020, 19:55

that's a sweet subject!- great tip on pic.10- oh my..I've just scrolled through the rest...that's some putty work with plastic in-fillings 😉
10 June 2020, 08:12

Many thanks my friends!
Andy, indeed, this kit has a putty soul 😄
Łukasz, you're welcome one more time😉
10 June 2020, 19:14

This is some serious scratchbuilding and a great tutorial at the very same time 👍
Feels more like Amodel kit😉
10 June 2020, 19:21

This kit really gives hell to you. Thanks four the tip using compound to get a nice surface.
14 June 2020, 19:30

Thanks a lot, Christoph. I have assumed it will help the paint to have a better glossy finish 🙂
Comet ready to paint.
14 June 2020, 19:43

New pics updated... I used Humbrol Enamel H21 Black Gloss. Brightness of this black is very nice. I also think that is one of the best to use as a base coat on some metallic paints.
17 June 2020, 19:49

that seems a very shiny plane 🙂
all the sanding paid of 🙂
about the canopy studs, why not mask and pain, first in interior color, then exterior.... being 1/72 it may just look in scale.
try in a spare canopy first of course😉
17 June 2020, 21:05

Looking good, Cuajete! Nice work with this old kit, that gloss black looks like it went down nicely.
Hard to tell from the pictures, but did you fill in the incorrect rudder hinge line below the stabilizers? And your flight control balance horns look to be more 'in scale' then my attempt.
17 June 2020, 23:30

Spanjaard, I will consider your advice. Thanks friend 🙂
Gordon, many thanks for your words. Although I think I did nothing... what do you mean with incorrect rudder hinge line below the stabilizers? Sorry for my bad english.
Skywalker, Maciej and Christoph... thank you very much for your kind words and tips. I'm glad you like it.
Unfortunately I have had to stop this work for a while, due to the attention that other personal projects require. But when I can I will finish this beautiful aircraft.
Thanks again for follow 🙂
9 August 2020, 19:04

Absolutely great job. I have got one in my stash, but now I am even more reluctant to start it...
13 April 2021, 18:36

another option for the canopy could be to use bare metal foil or something extremely thin. but i have never tried that myself.
13 April 2021, 19:35

Absolutely amazing amount of work that you invested into this crappy lump of plastic to get this fantastic result so far ! I gave up on it back then and built the fantastic SBS resin kit instead....
13 April 2021, 19:56

Robert, Spanjaard and Hanno... Many thanks for your lovely words. And thanks to the rest mates for the likes 🙂
I would have liked to buy the SBS kit, but it seems to me to be quite expensive, so I bought the KP kit instead, but I have seen that it has flaws starting with the horrible shape of the canopy.
14 April 2021, 18:09

You are welcome, Cuajete... You can always try strips of decal. Techmod offers sheets of blank decal that can be printed on a laser printer and then given two coats of transparent lacquer, or simply painted with appropriate paint (I tried laser printing and also painting with Tamiya sprays and it works with some attention). Also, there are sheets with strips of decals of different width and colours offered. Tedious work, nevertheless... But, presumably, you are not afraid of such tasks🙂
14 April 2021, 18:46

Many thanks for your help, Robert.
I considered the option of using the decal strips method, but I am not achieving good results with the vacuformed as I do not have a good base to work with. I am considering the option of vacuum forming the KP's kit canopy to leave it open, even if it is not accurate.
15 April 2021, 11:29

1 July 2021, 18:19

Thanks a lot, Neil. I'm trying to do a new canopy so I can continue with the project.
Thanks for your likes, mates 🙂
30 September 2021, 19:26

You're so close Cuajete- I feel your pain of a long and complicated build. Results speak for themselves up to this point!!
30 September 2021, 22:06

Looking really good Cuajete, looking forward to when you get the new canopy. 👍
14 November 2021, 22:22

Thank you for your motivating words, mates! Very much appreciated.
Welcome!
15 November 2021, 20:08

very nice! skillfully built with all of the detailing. Also a very nice racer, by the way.
24 November 2021, 07:10

Many thanks my friends!
It is a simple and hard kit, but with work it can be improved a bit. The biggest difficulty I see so far is the replacement of the terrible canopy and its fit after the initial cockpit's emptying.
I still have to think about how to rebuild the landing gear, because the one on the real model is not as simple as the one in the kit includes
24 November 2021, 20:45

this is a very impressive work, more scratch building that assembling. very inspiring
1 December 2021, 00:54

Thank you very much for your words, Pierre. I don't think I deserve that much 🙂
2 December 2021, 21:13

That model was the first ever I built a long long time ago. So I have a soft spot for it.
What you make of it is just fantastic.
2 December 2021, 21:18

Of course you do so Cuajete!
that KIT IS NICELY said "Crap". And you are doing a fantastic job about turning this into
a little gem.. Keep it up mate 👍
2 December 2021, 21:20

Many thanks for your nice words and likes, my friends. Your comments are very encouraging. I hope it won't take long to continue this project 🙂
5 December 2021, 18:55

This one has been on the shelf for a while, but it is soooo close. We are all looking forward to its progress. Good luck mate!
5 December 2021, 19:03

Thanx for your support and motivation, Jan. Your comment is encouraging.
7 December 2021, 21:10

I am just wondering how did you manage to make a spray so clean without dust or splash ?? i am just struggling all the time.
8 December 2021, 08:30

Greg, Pierre... Thank you very much for your motivation words. And thanks to the rest mates for the likes 🙂
Pierre, putty and sanding surface imperfections and after priming with Mr. Surfacer 1200 I achieved that surface in several polishing sessions with Tamiya Compund products (starting with the coarsest grain and ending with the finest). You can see these products in pic 98. Then I painted with Humbrol 021 gloss black enamel. This is one of the best paints to achieve this effect, even as a very good base for metallics. Another good primer for this is Alclad Glossy Black.
11 December 2021, 19:37

Great looking plane now
thats was alot of pain to achieve that
I think now all kits will be easy for you lol

Read today all the story, great project and and a very great build! 👌🏻
6 October 2022, 16:13

Thank you very much, Brown. I'm glad you like it. A few days ago I saved this and the other kits I started for a transfer to another place. I hope it won't take long to resume all my open projects.
Thanks again to all mates for your likes 🙂 👍
6 October 2022, 17:37

Holy Moly. That kit gives the word "coarse" an entirely new meaning. I pull my cap for your perseverance.
6 October 2022, 23:21

Many thanks friends. Your words are greatly appreciated and motivating 🙂
I also hope that the models arrive safely at their new destination 👍

Thank you so much, J35J. Different grain sandpaper, polishing pastes, a good primer, Humbrol's black gloss, a lot of work and large doses of patience are to blame 🙂

13 January 2024, 19:03

Oh wow, I built Grosvenor House (the red one) a year ago as my first practice kit returning to the hobby. Stone Age modeling indeed, but was a fun little project. Very interested to see what you do with this one
13 January 2024, 19:19

Also, what is that tool you used to get the shape the interior cross sections? That's amazing, I'd love to have one myself
13 January 2024, 19:22

Hello Rando, your words are very appreciated and motivating. The paint finish on your Grosvenor House is very good.
The tool you mention is a shape copier. I got it at a modeling fair in Madrid, but I don't remember the name of the brand. This one in particular is not very good. There are better ones and with thinner spikes. I've seen them in other online stores, but right now I can't remember where. Sorry. There are also them in DIY stores, but they are much larger and have plastic spikes. I hope that with this information you are lucky and can find one.
Thanks again to all mates for your likes! 🙂
18 January 2024, 19:18

I appreciate your words, SM. The big challenge with this kit is the cockpit.

Congrats on turning such an unpromising ancient kit into a masterpiece. More putty then plastic by now I guess! Outstanding. 🙂
9 May 2024, 06:37

@Neil and @Bernd, your words are very motivating and inspiring to continue moving forward with this hard kit. Many thanks!
@Freder Rouge, thank you so much for your like 👍

Magnifique !!

Hi Neuling, thanks for your comment, personally, I find that the base is not great and will probably redo it
1 April, 09:00

Good job. But with the coloring, I'm not sure if everything is right. I don't really like the colors, apparently the RAF colors are needed here. And apparently there were no stars on the wing from above.
