I built this for my brother who served on the USS Midway (CVA-41) as part of the ship's USMC detachment. His role was the aide or "body man" for the ship's Skipper. He was aboard ship from '59 - '61 and the Demons, along with the A-1 Skyraiders were the primary active aircraft in the generally peacetime environment. The ship was based at Alameda as part of the 7th Fleet. I had the rare privilege of standing on the flight deck of an active carrier when I was 8 years old. I have vague memories of the Demon but better mental images of the A-1's Considering the ship's legendary history - I am fortunate to have the honor of standing on her decks!

Thank you, gents! I ordered the -2M variant to build as a replacement. The difference is a bobtail on the 2M. My brother gets a gift, I get a new kit. Everybody wins!

Nice looking model, I have been aboard the USS Forestall. Of corse she is famous for having now Senator John McCain aboard.

This one is on my wishlist. From what I understand it was the only single engine aircraft ever produced by McDonnell Douglas.

You are correct. I went back and checked on the Banshee and the Gutless (which was powered by 2 cans of whipped cream). I know you you have seen "The Bridges at Toko-Ri" with William Holden, right? I could have sworn that he was flying a Panther - but I just read that they were Banshees.
Woulda lost that on a beer bet!

I thought they were panthers also, I swear in the opening secene it is panthers they are recovering, and they have the tail code PP or maybe that is the bird the Cag flies with Holden on the Rece flight. I will have to watch it. I have it on DVD.

Thank you! I highly recommend the 2 HB kits. All I bought was a set of SAC gear. I had some leftover harnesses and the cockpit is so tight, you can't see much anyway. Everything went together well - no fillers required!

As you may or may not know, HB is a Trumpeter company. Most of their kits are well done.
