MiG-21 PFM (WIP)
PE did not fit and I decided to cut it at the tip to glue it in two phases
Nasty edges a after gluing the cut PE in place
After dry fitting the ejection seat, a little trim was necessary, using a diamond file and PE scissors
Light wash with AMMO PLW to bring it the details
Weight in the nose cone - Liquid Gravity
Halfs joined
Tail added
Putty
Putty to correct small depression on the headrest
Fin added - maybe I should not have puttied this zone...
Wings glued - until now this has the most complicated fit
AK Xtreme Metal Aluminum applied
Adding the spots with MRP-35, the closest I found to the Gunze reference
Adding a mist of green over the spots in very diluted MRP-35
When removing the tape some paint decided to join it!!! 🙁
Correcting, with AK Primer Grey
The primary was polished and the whole model varnished with Tamiya X-22
AK Jet Exhaust applied and a little more peeling... :-\
Foggy division of green to metalic applied
Peeling corrected
Decals, on top of X-22 Tamiya varnish
Panel Line Wash Dark Green Gray A.MIG-1608 applied
Neutral Gray AK677 applied
Preparing the lovely Aero Line ladder
Some subtle oils, mostly on the bottom part
Painting some 6mm Tamiya tape with the canopy sealant color - should have painted AFTER cutting the thin stripes, but I feel this is good enough...
Applying the Tamiya tape stripes
Final application of the sealant
Starting to work on the gear, very dificult fit, because there is no pin/holes - you have to test a lot and see a lot of pictures in the net
Finally, it stands on its own!
Apparently in the haste to close the cockpit I forgot two parts behind the windshield!
Here are the parts N26 and N21 missing behind the windshield
Some delicate tools, gel glue and steady hands are needed
Cockpit finished with all parts glued - still have to paint a few details
Almost finished, still missing some detail painting, detail varninshing and missiles... and PE for IFF antennas and static dischargers... and...
Finished!
Finished!

Cool I'll take a seat! Looking forward to see your progress. Looks very nice so far. In my opinion this kit is one of the best. It was really an enjoyable built. Do you already have chosen the marking?

Well, it's a group build.I'm being pushed into accepting a plan bare metal, but I think I'll try to negotiate the spotted one on the box art! :-D

Very nice work Ricardo, this is probably my favorite MiG-21 scheme. Sucks about the paint lifting with the masking removal, I always cringe when I think about masking over metallics. I have had that happen to me before too.

Have one of the other box sets of this. Looking forward to doing it in Cuban colours.

Yup, really nice kit. Not sure if my AK Xtreme bottle is 100% ok though, because this paint is usually very resistant. Some corrections are now on the path of completion.

Looking great, I think I would have put the kit away after tha NMF peeling off though, so well done for perseverance!

i just had the same thing happen to an eduard kit i was working on. i wonder if they're using a more substantial mold release fluid than other companies.
i've never had this issue with any other companies. nor did i do anything different in my painting process.

washing them with water and soap, prior to start, may avoid problems with any substance present in the plastic

Ricardo, I think you will overcome this little issue with the NMF - the over all appearance is very nice 👍

Thats really coming along. Great metal work. What a pain with the masking tape and great recovery. Looking forward to the reveal.

Thanks mates. Hopefully I'll finish it this week, before going on summer vacations.

The varnish is Tamiya X-22 thinned with Lacquer Thinner. You should NOT use enamel varnish when you use enamel based washes, like I did, it would mix up. Yes, I wait for the pin wash to dry and then simply clean it with cotton swabs. If the wash accumulates in a difficult place or is difficult to remove, I use some White Spirit or Odourless Enamel Thinner in a brush or cotton swab to remove it.

I really love this MIG and the camouflage 👍 The lighter edges on the dark green spots. Are they a result of the spraying?

It looks spot on, great quality! (although as a side note, I am not sure about the cockpit interior color).
That Aluminium from Xtreme Metal looks fantastic, I also tried it recently and cand confirm, but indeed the mechanical resitance is very low, it goes off immediately.
More pictures soon?

Fantastic result. I would have gone cross-eyed doing all the green spots free hand like you did!
