Spit IX Progress
Cockpit finished.
The fuselage did not fully envelop the cockpit. The seam line has to be filled.
I used super glue this time. It takes some time to harden, but it sands really well.
Only a few more seams had to be fixed. The fit was pretty good.
Some putty and sanding later.
Masking for the green of the camoflage.
Base Camoflage is finished. Colors used: Tamiya XF-80, XF-81 and XF-82. Mr.Color H074 for the nose cone.
I always mask too little. You can see the yellow overspray on the wings. But it is fixable 🙂
Alot of masking for this. Unfortunately I was too anxious to finish it so I masked some of it a little too early, resulting in some tears of the paint. Needs fixing..
This side is a little better, but still some clean up to do.
All decals and all the small stencils are on with an extra layer of Super Clear III. The decals were unusually thick for an Eduard kit, so I had to use Tamiya Mark Fit Strong on them.
It is finished! I used AK's satin varnish for the finish this time and I really like it.
Notice the lever and mechanism for closing the door. It is part of the Eduard photo etch for the kit.
I used a bit of tin foil for the mirror. It works really well. You can see the reflection of the cutting mat in the mirror. 🙂
More Eduard PE in the cockpit.
A photo etch antennae that was part of the kit.
lots of small stencils in the kit.
Compared to the Tamiya Spitfire I that I built about a year ago.
Out in the spring sun 🙂

I started building the Eduard Spitfire Mk IX kit. I needed something less complicated after building the Dauntless with the BigEd kit. Cockpit has been finished and next step will be to assemble the fuselage.

The pattern looks o.k., but the grey is rather blue-ish... Lighting perhaps?

Yes, It must be the lighting, I also noticed it looked blueish in the picture. It usually comes out nice with this light, but perhaps the white balance got screwed up in the phone camera. It's the same colors I used on the mosquito. Looking at hose pictures, they look blueish too. I have to get a better photo setup I guess..

The invasion stripes are finished. It needs some clean up, but on the whole I'm happy with them.

Thank you Spanjaard!
You are right, I'm getting to the point in the build where I always tell myself it is almost done.., but it always takes more time than I thought. Ever the optimist I guess..😉

it is where i get impatient, and try to take shortcuts and then make the biggest mistakes.... do not fall into that trap!

O wow, fast progress Bjorn!! Looking good as always. I'm surprised you needed some putty, this is quite a good kit I always believed. Cockpit is fantastic again 👍

Thank you Stephan, Erik and Daniel! 🙂
Latest update: The decals are on and I've applied an extra layer of clear coat before weathering. I also assembled the landing gear and glued to the plane. Decaling took some time as it usually does with these Eduard models due to all the stencils. Some of them so small that I could not even read the text with my optivisor on..

Thanks James and Daniel! 🙂
Yes, I started with the Spitfire I at about this time last year, so it's kind of fitting to do the Spit IX about a year later. I will have to compare them to see if I've learnt something..😉

Thank you Essi and Sören! 🙂
The Spitfire IX is finished! THis Eduard ProfiPACK kit was really nice to build and the photo etch parts really adds to the overall appearance in my view. This time I used AK's satin acrylic varnish instead of the Vallejo matt varnish I usually use for the finish and I must say that I prefer the less matt surface I got this time.

Fantastic Work and Result Björn... The Detailwork, the Authrntic colours and the overall clean build 👍
In some areas, the surface of the Spit seems a little glossy for my personal Taste...
But often in photographs all looks a bit shinier than in real life.
But that does not harm the great overall Impression anyway.... 👍

Thank you Daniel! 🙂
I was actually going for a shinier finish this time, so you are spot on.😉 I realize it's not everybody's cup of tea, but I just had to test it.

Thank you Hato! 🙂
I just couldn't resist taking a few pictures in the wonderful spring sun that we have today. It still bugs me, though, that I forgot to score the decals on the fuselage to make the panel lines more prominent..

I started working on the new F6F-3 kit by Eduard and I've got to say, I was a bit disappointed. Not the same quality I've experienced with all of the other Eduard kits I've built. Messy flash, chunky and not crisp details in some areas and fit problems. Nothing horrific, but just not what I expected from an Eduard kit.

I'm sorry to hear that. It looks like it is based on the same tooling (from 2008 ) as the one I built (Angry Hellcat | Project by UrsusMagnus (1:48) ), but I don't remember having any major problems with that kit, although it wasn't as detailed as I was used to by other Eduard kits. Perhaps the tooling is getting old.., or a bad batch in the manufacturing..
