KV-2 WIP
The Zvezda and CMK gun barrels. The Zvezda one assembles from three cylindrical sections, and is actually really good. However, the expanded part in the front is a little too thick. Neither barrel has rifling.
Getting the CMK barrel into the Zvezda mount took some sawing, as the foundation is significantly thicker. The hole in the mantlet also had to be slightly expanded. Zvezda's plastic mantlet is more detailed than the resin CMK one, surprisingly.
The finished gun breech.
The big rear hatch offers a nice view into the turret, even though there isn't much in there aside from the breech.
Put down some basic modulation (Vallejo Black Green, Vallejo Russian Green, Tamiya Khaki).
Oh no, the model was ruined in a tragic paintball accident!
But then it got better.
Wash applied. It's really coming together now.
Dirtying up the running gear just a little bit.
The link and length tracks assemble fairly quickly after a long and tedious sanding process. I assembled them in two pieces that snap together fairly easily so I can put them on after painting.
Not doing anything too fancy, just dry brushing with a dark metallic colour and applying dirt pigments.
Voila!

The Zvezda KV-2 is great, I love mine. Better than the Tamiya one IMO, definitely more accurate to the real thing.

The Tamiya KV-2 is terrible. The Trumpeter one is better. I have the photo etch meant for that kit, but it fits very poorly into the Zvezda hull. The Trumpeter hull is narrower and longer.
I am using photos taken by Yuri Pasholok of a KV-2 from TsMVS as a reference, but the tank itself is far from original. Only one road wheel is correct, the fenders are new construction, and the track links are from the IS-8. Also the MG ball mount is inside-out. Still, better than nothing.
