Note my makeshift B-1B CRL (Conventional Rotary Launcher). I used images from Willy Peeters' book and the website for Bone Fragments to simulate the look of this complex device.

I am using the Scale Aircraft Conversions landing gear set. These things are made up of some kind of soft metal. Drilling holes was a challenge for the PE parts and I did not even put them all on. Once I decided to test fit to the landing gear bay, it was also a challenge.

I decided to take a different route with the nacelles as I wasn't happy with the existing ones. After ordering the Metallic Details set, I started the new set (2nd B-1B in my stash) along with the Bone Fragments intake set.

I also ordered Jared's antenna set which comes with the pitot tubes. I realized that after already gluing the two halves together, I needed to get creative and try to align the wholes to drill to place the pitot tubes correctly. Not too shabby so far.
![Album image #37 Album image #37](/albums/img/9/7/9/1159979-89791-34-720.jpg)
Here I added one of the exhaust openings. As I continue to research this aircraft, there are so many details that can be missed.

Here are the holes I created for two antennas. Also note my penciled in area for the expendable countermeasures which I will be scribing as well. Having the right tools make the job so much easier. The scriber I picked up from UMM is one of the best investments made to date along with the Hasegawa template sets.

After months of searching for stock on the 3D decals from RedFox, I finally found them directly from them. Once I ordered them, it only took 2 weeks for them to arrive from Europe. When I saw the detail, I could not put them aside and had to use them on this build. Now I am going to be leaving the hatch doors open on this build and possibly use LEDs to light up the inside.

I decided to add some LEDs to the project using Evan Designs sets. I installed two strobbing lights on each side, one in the cockpit, one in the aft cockpit and one on the tail, all powered with a small battery and a remote.
![Album image #53 Album image #53](/albums/img/8/3/4/1179834-89791-20-720.jpg)
Put the fuselage and aft portions together. Lots of sanding and putty was needed.
![Album image #54 Album image #54](/albums/img/8/3/5/1179835-89791-20-720.jpg)
Here she is mainly all put together.
![Album image #55 Album image #55](/albums/img/8/3/6/1179836-89791-63-720.jpg)
As mentioned, lots of sanding to conform the forward fuselage to the main part. I've been using Mr. Dissolved Putty to fill the gaps. More sanding to commence later. All in all, she is coming out pretty good.

Lancer in 1:48? it must be quite a big size fellow! Rotary Launcher looks certainly good

It is at 1:48 scale! I have yet to figure out where to place her once she is done. Well worth the majestic size!

Thank you Gary. It is coming along slowly. I realized that looking at the pictures of the bays and other parts of the plane makes me want to add more details to the model. The research gets in the way and I end up completing a small amount at a time.

Nice job, Jorge. I did this kit with all the Baracuda upgrades about 2 years ago. It was a tough build, so kudos for tackling it. I didn't do rotary launchers, though. Instead, I chose to add lights, so I used two bomb bays for storing the the 9V battery and the arduino control board. Great job feathering the new nacelles into the engine housing. I know that wasn't easy.

Thank you for the comments gents. Casey, I was contemplating on using lights as well but that would just add on to the project and would take me too long to complete. I see so many examples on the internet that my mind races to build all sorts of cool stuff with the model (diorama's, led lights, in-flight set up with a launching of ordnance in a diorama, etc.). By chance, do you have any pics of that build?

Jorge - yep, I sure do. You motivated me to get the project and album created on my profile (I finished it before I was on ScaleMates), so thanks for asking! I hope the pictures help, and good luck with the rest of your build!

Jorge i think sometimes we can get over keen to add detail after detail and before you know it the project takes so much longer or even ends up on the shelve of doom because you loose the passion for what you are trying to achieve.
I was listening to a pod cast on Spotify with Geoff Coughlin (the editor of scale modelling now) over the weekend and he said he knows a modeller who does some truly stunning work and really goes to town on the detail but hardly ever finishes a model because he is always adding to the build after discovering new pictures or other reference materials.
I think the key thing is to enjoy what you are doing but have a cut off point where you say that's enough.
Personally getting into that level of detail i find can be a mojo killer and i loose the enjoyment of the build, but i really admire people like yourself who love getting down to that level of detail. So well done Sir. 😉
Looking forward to seeing your next progress update.
All the best to you.

it is a question of what you enjoy and what you want to do. some will go to extreme detailing, and finish the model (whatever it takes may not matter) and others will go to OOB without any extra detail. what matters is that it makes you happy 😉 even if you never finish, if it makes you happy making half models, then ... be happy 🙂

Casey, can't wait to see your past project. Gary and Spanjaard, thank you for your words of inspiration. This is my third build with all the "latest" accessories and tools. I built several models as a teenager back 30 years ago and rediscovered this love just recently. So far, it has been frustrating but fun learning about PE, airbrushing and resin parts (to say the least) so it is safe to say, let the modelling continue!

I chose to not even mess with the bomb bays and closed mine up. You wont be able to see that stuff while its sitting there, so I wasnt going to waste the effort. LOL The time spent doing those nacelles was enough on its own. And I simply used the supplied FOD covers with the intake kit because they look great and there was just too much stuff inside that would need to be done to make it look decent after hacking it up and puttying and all that.
Yours looks great!
