Project Violet has been started! Up to now Bandai doesn't disappoint - all parts fit very well. However, an important Y-Wing cockpit detail has been omitted: In the movie a bunch of ripped hose pipes runs through the cockpit. I'll need to add those once I got hold of an old guitar string of the right strength.

All parts fit very well up to now, so I could concentrate on adding the cockpit lights. Three LEDs were connected in series in order to have just two wires coming out of the model. This whole thing is kind of a generations' project: The LED sub-assembly was supplied by my father, I'm now building the model and my brother is already busy with the display base.

Yes, I can recommend to have a look at the Greenstrawberry website if you're planning to build any kind of sci fi model. And the owner is very friendly and a joy to deal with.

Thanks John, David and berni! Yes, the build is quite fun up to now. I'll now spray on the very light grey main color. After that there will be some weathering and then all the small tubes still need to be added.

Thanks a lot Roman, Kyle, Tim and Finn!
Weathering sci fi models is really the fun part for me. And all the fine detail and recessed as well as raised structues on the Bandai kit make this task all the more satisfying. The oil washes are now applied. I think next I'll spray on a flat clear cote and go for all those edges and raised details with some watercolor pencils or some drybrushing.

Look forward to seeing it! I like to build pretty much anything so I plan to give the Star Wars universe a try sometime l. Agreed. Fun to be able to super weather and also fun to make stuff 100% look like what you want. Fictional universes are fun.

Call the space plumber! The Y-Wing's fuselage is covered in pipes and hoses. As I'm painting and adding them only after I have finished the main parts (cockpit, fuselage, "wings") it feels like this is easily doubling my building time.

It is looking awesome. And it is not even finished
What are y using for your home made wash?

Thanks Kyle, Villiers and Spanjaard for your encouraging comments!
The was as seen in photo 10 is just a grey mix of white and black oil paints, diluted with Humbrol Enamel thinner.

Thank you Spanjaard, Konrad and Gary!
I've now added one of the engine pods. The other one still needs some more painting done as the front cover will later be shown removed, lying on the ground next to the spaceship. So the engine pod's interior at the front will be visible.

Thank you, Torsten, Kyle and Stephen!
Yes, these Star Wars Bandai kits may not be cheap, but they are very good value for the money spent.

Thank you, Hanno, Robin and Alexander!
This morning I was able to finish this project. And the cockpit lights are still working, yes!
It was a very pleasant build, only the multitude of pipes and hoses proved to be a bit fiddly in some places. I managed to break two pipes from the ships underside. Luckily that's now hardly visible.
Well, the end of one project is the beginning of a new one! This time something more earthly again.

Alec, Ricardo and Kyle, thanks a lot for your kind comments!
I'm indeed a little bit proud of the cockpit lights as this was the first model where I added some. Although the lights and wiring were done by my father, so I only had to pay attention not to rip off anything when I installed them in the kit.
