Dianoga-class Assault Starfighter

Album image #1
All the pieces off the printer and cleaned up - its a pretty simple kit. Canopy has been printed in clear resin and polished

Album image #2
Test fitting the pilot - had to remove the dashboard to get him to fit

Album image #3
Framework glued to the canopy glass

Album image #4
Cockpit painted

Album image #5
Lots of detail in there but not easy to paint as you can really only access from the front. The printed file has an open strip at the top of the cockpit, maybe for lighting - I closed that with a piece of white styrene sprayed with a pearl gloss coat to look like a light panel.

Album image #6
Cockpit back wall also painted

Album image #7
Pilot figure painted

Album image #8
Cockpit and pilot weathered and pilot glued in place

Album image #9
Dash put back in place. I ended up having to glue it at an angle to miss the pilot's arm but I think it looks more realistic like this

Album image #10
The rear panel contains the engines but has large holes for lights. As lights aren't my thing I decided to close them up and some Wave verniers were a good fit

Album image #11
Wave vernier pieces glued in place - back view

Album image #12
Front view of the engines with the verniers installed

Album image #13
Back piece being glued to the main body - some clamping was required!

Album image #14
Cockpit glass glued in place

Album image #15
All 4 wings attached with 5 minute epoxy

Album image #16
Front view after a couple of rounds of filling, sanding and priming

Album image #17
Rear view after primer

Album image #18
These are the colours I'm planning to paint the ship (bottom left)

Album image #19
Main body coat done and started on some detail painting - back view

Album image #20
And front view

Album image #21
Decided to try something new for me - chipping using Maskol applied with a sponge

Album image #22
Also the first time I've designed and cut my own masks - here the masks have been added for the wing flashes

Album image #23
Green part of the wing markings painted

Album image #24
Second round of masking - for the black sections

Album image #25
Black sections painted - I'm pretty sure that there will be some touching up as I don't think the boundaries between the green and black all lined up perfectly

Album image #26
All masking removed and some touch-ups done

Album image #27
Time to let the paint dry completely before weathering

Thanks Spanjaard. Small update - completed the masking for the wings and started the painting. I'm using enamels so its going to take a bit of drying time between colours

Thanks Torsten & Kyle. Got to say I liked the way the black and green on the wings worked out.

Album info

This is a ship from the prequel-era Star Wars: Starfighter game, one of the ship flown by a prate faction. The model is 3D printed from a file found on Thingiverse, posted on there by Zarkus Model Kits. The original file is scaled at 1/144 so I scaled it up by 200% to fit my preferred 1/72 scale. I did a test print of the cockpit and 200% turned out to be too big to fit my 1/72 pilot figure. Scaling the file at 176% ended up fitting the pilot nicely, so all pieces were printed at that scale using an Elegoo Mars 2P and Siraya Tech Fast Navy Grey resin
