P51-Mustang (Foxy Lady #34 Black - @RenoAirRace '74)

![Album image #2 Album image #2](/albums/img/7/7/8/1303778-10307-83-pristine.jpg)
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/0/1/7/1305017-10307-14-720.jpg)
Cockpit painted and glued in postion. Ready to close the fuselage.
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/0/1/8/1305018-10307-24-720.jpg)
Same process as with the white one - cutting the vacu canopy in shape and cutting away fuselage sections to make up space for the resin replacement - a "turtel" upper deck with spine.
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/3/6/2/1313362-10307-31-720.jpg)
Unfortunattly I figured out late that in the resin kit I used here there was a second pilot seat and radio-set cover included instead of the expected clipped wing-tips.
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/3/6/3/1313363-10307-54-720.jpg)
So a little unexpected scratch work was needed.
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/3/6/4/1313364-10307-29-720.jpg)
Sanding the clipped wing in shape
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/3/6/5/1313365-10307-49-720.jpg)
On lower wing side I needed grinder support to get the thing in shape.
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/3/6/6/1313366-10307-69-720.jpg)
Removed the guns and started to fill ports and panel lines
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/3/6/7/1313367-10307-97-720.jpg)
Assembly work finished & pitot istalled - ready for the paint-shop.
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/3/6/8/1313368-10307-92-720.jpg)
White primer from Ultimate is applied to identify issues on the surface. On this one I need rework here and there - e.g. the resin cockpit surface do not properly transit into the fuselage. Attitional sanding and somemore putty is needed. After that the bird will be ready for the black top-coat.
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/0/3/3/1320033-10307-79-720.jpg)
Starting to turn it black
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/0/3/4/1320034-10307-94-720.jpg)
Done.

Painting the wheel bay
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/0/3/6/1320036-10307-97-720.jpg)
Adding a layer of gloss only
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/0/3/7/1320037-10307-21-720.jpg)
Started to add the decals
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/3/4/8/1327348-10307-14-720.jpg)
Before I can complete the model....
![Album image #18 Album image #18](/albums/img/3/4/9/1327349-10307-39-720.jpg)
I have to do some more adjustments....
![Album image #19 Album image #19](/albums/img/3/5/0/1327350-10307-87-720.jpg)
....on the black '74 the nose cone was modified....
![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/3/5/1/1327351-10307-13-720.jpg)
...from the original MustangP51-D shape into something more "dart"-like.

Started also number two of my civilian Mustangs. One of the first "modified" Mustangs at Reno Air Race. The 1974 Miss Foxy Lady from Kenny Bernstine. I build the plane model twin from 1975 in parallel. See P51-Mustang (Foxy Lady #34 White - @RenoAirRace '75) | Album by jott (1:72)

Great build ! These air racers are a thing of beauty. On a side note, this year is the last Reno air race at its current location, after 6 decades. A search is on for a new location.

Thank you gents for your nice comments.
@john - thx for the note. unfortunatlly bad news,...Some may argue against airshows and races (for various (and sometimes valid) reasons) - but I would miss this events. Hope they find a new place.
