These pictures open the build report on Airfix's remarkable Swift FR.5. What a nice kit! The build opens, as usual, with the cockpit, although there are a few preparations to be made here. I exchanged the seat for a resin one, although I think the kit part can also show a nice result. The accuracy of fit is in the middle range, although the joining of the fuselage halves, as fitting samples reveal, will not be easy. However, this is also due to the complex interior of the bow area, as the pictures might suggest.

Off to a good start! Whose resin seat are you using? I have the one from CMK. How is the starboard fuselage in your kit? Many of the kits that were sold in the EU have a tooling flaw in that part (upper fuselage below the vertical fin). For some reason, the first batch of kits that went to the US were fine - apparently the tooling was damaged after that first tranche, or so the Internet stories say. My kit seems fine, but I've seen some examples on Britmodeller that look quite nasty.

Watching with interest and pleasure, too (I intend to build a Swift in the record-setting version using Alley Cat conversion set the other day...)

Thank you very much mates! I am pleased about your interest. I use the Quickboost seat (QB 72 528) I haven't noticed any damage, I seem to have been lucky. In any case, this is an interesting indication of a circumstance that truly does not happen every day!

Finally there is progress on this build, which is very close to my heart - and then the build report is almost over! I guess I was a bit lazy with the photography here: the next step on the Swift will be to lower the heavy shine a bit and then try a very subtle washing.
During the construction I decided to show this model flying and in motion as well. It shouldn't take too long until the completion.

The Swift is finished! Yesterday I did the final touches, today I want to show you some pictures of the finished project.
Airfix has packed a little jewel into the box, which literally tempts you to tickle out the possible with ambition and attentiveness. One thing was important to me: I sanded the entire surface early during the building process, because I wanted to even out the too deep panel lines. The result looks good, I will stick to this approach. The pitot tube is a piece of metal from the scrap box, the pilot is from PJ Productions.
I hope you like the result - thank you for your interest and your motivating comments!

The model is fantastic, congratulations! It inspires me to finish my own. 😊

Hi mates, great feedback, thank you so much for that!
This was a really fine, but also appropriately challenging build with many a possibility; Airfix' Supermarine Swift is really to be recommended!

Can you loose a word or two on the base? Is the blurred pic selfcreated or downloaded somewhere?

With pleasure: the blurred base comes from "Coastal Kits", was scanned, provided with a "Swift- arrow and lettering", printed out and glued onto the wooden base. The same blurred base has also been used for other models, such as the "flying" Do-335...

Lovely looking build mate and awesome pics. A great way to display the completed model 👍
