Matchbox | No. PK-10 | 1:72 | Strikemaster Mk.80/86
![Album image #1 Album image #1](/albums/img/7/8/7/1669787-49836-66-720.jpg)
2022/23: OOB build of the vintage '70s Matchbox 1/72 kit.
![Album image #2 Album image #2](/albums/img/6/5/2/1446652-49836-66-720.jpg)
Here we go again! 🙂 I enjoyed my other Matchbox build; the Sabre so much, I thought I'd build another from my childhood...
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/6/5/3/1446653-49836-79-720.jpg)
Lovely untouched kit. Purchased recently from well known auction site.
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/6/5/4/1446654-49836-17-720.jpg)
Priming, etc...
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/6/5/5/1446655-49836-43-720.jpg)
More priming, bit of gluing...
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/6/5/6/1446656-49836-14-720.jpg)
I can't resist spraying the inside all black. Never going to be seen I know.
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/6/5/7/1446657-49836-38-720.jpg)
Gluing wings, beginning on painting crew and adding nose weight...
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/6/5/8/1446658-49836-10-720.jpg)
Pinched! I'm a big fan of Plastic Magic; it's got more bite than Tamiya thin, which is usually what I need on these older kit builds.
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/6/5/9/1446659-49836-53-720.jpg)
Pretty much the only dodgy seam on the whole kit.
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/6/6/0/1446660-49836-40-720.jpg)
Needed some traditional glue for the wings.
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/6/6/1/1446661-49836-85-720.jpg)
Masking canopy.
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/6/6/2/1446662-49836-90-720.jpg)
After a bit of sanding, we're ready for priming...
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/1/2/1/1447121-49836-17-720.jpg)
Grey primer is a in my opinion a slightly thicker consistency than Israeli sand, so gives a 'higher build'. Both used are Vallejo.
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/7/6/3/1447763-49836-72-720.jpg)
Final (prior camouflage paint) tweaks... Sorting out centre seam with some multiple Vallejo grey primer passes. Then wet and dry to polish.
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/7/6/4/1447764-49836-49-720.jpg)
Masking for underside.
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/7/6/5/1447765-49836-32-720.jpg)
Ready for the grey.
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/7/9/5/1453795-49836-27-720.jpg)
Grey on!
![Album image #18 Album image #18](/albums/img/6/0/7/1471607-49836-63-720.jpg)
Only orange I had to hand; it's a pretty decent colour match, but way too thick to spray, so hand painting.
![Album image #19 Album image #19](/albums/img/4/6/3/1473463-49836-31-720.jpg)
Sprayed base colour of scheme.
![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/4/6/4/1473464-49836-53-720.jpg)
Decided after airbrushing the base colour, that I'd be truer to my youth and hand paint the contrasting brown.
![Album image #21 Album image #21](/albums/img/4/6/5/1473465-49836-49-720.jpg)
Will smooth the contrast down.
![Album image #22 Album image #22](/albums/img/4/6/6/1473466-49836-83-720.jpg)
![Album image #23 Album image #23](/albums/img/4/6/7/1473467-49836-88-720.jpg)
Masking for black.
![Album image #24 Album image #24](/albums/img/4/6/8/1473468-49836-74-720.jpg)
![Album image #25 Album image #25](/albums/img/4/6/9/1473469-49836-54-720.jpg)

![Album image #27 Album image #27](/albums/img/6/6/9/1487669-49836-40-720.jpg)
Touching up here and there.
![Album image #28 Album image #28](/albums/img/6/7/0/1487670-49836-31-720.jpg)
![Album image #29 Album image #29](/albums/img/4/5/9/1496459-49836-91-720.jpg)
Gloss coat done, decals largely held up and some 'heavy' accent panel line action going on...
![Album image #30 Album image #30](/albums/img/6/4/1/1504641-49836-10-720.jpg)
Painting black primer on canopy.
![Album image #31 Album image #31](/albums/img/9/8/9/1510989-49836-15-720.jpg)
Getting there... Pilots added, decals dry and a matt finish been applied. I'll add some gloss to metallic and clear areas.

Hi Roy, thanks and welcome! Yes, I enjoyed building that 1/72 Sabre so much for this group build I thought I'd have a crack at another one from my childhood 😀 I can actually remember buying this kit years ago from the newsagents I had a paper round at 👍 childhood memories 😀

Looking good Neil! what is it about these old Matchbox kits that makes them so addictive?

Thanks Neil! 👍 I guess many of us are attempting to relive our youth!?... Building one definitely takes me back, which is why after the Sabre I'd already completed for this group build. I thought I'd build another that I remember as a youngster 👍 🙂

I agree Neil. At that time I was building Airfix and the odd Revell kit, when Matchbox came along in the early to mid 70's for me they were the next step in quality, they seemed more detailed than Airfix and Revell and the stand was posable too.

Wow! Thanks very much Andy 👍 that's very kind of you to say such a thing. Though no way am I a master of anything! 😀 Thanks others for your likes too.
I'm hoping to tweak a few bits on the canopy tomorrow and then this'll be my second and final contribution to the highly enjoyable Matchbox group build.
Really enjoyed it. I have loved seeing everyones inspiring builds and of course happy childhood recollections for us all 👍
