F4U Coursair
Parts shown ready for assembly
Cockpit built and painted
Cockpit in and body built Up and around. Wings have the option to be folded up or down. At this point. I was hoping to have the option to keep it open but parts broke easily leaving me with out the option later on.
Cockpit in place
Base coat down. Was going to build up with this colour but later decided against it.
Started panel lining and airbrush was just not being kind to me PT1.
PT2... All goes to sh...oot. NB: People clean your airbrush!
Left this project off my workbench for some time whilst I got my head round going back to it. Used a solution of SHL and water to scrub the lines and mess back. Teensy bit strong stripped it back to primer!
Base coat down using new colours purchased from Vallejo, dark gull grey used for panel lines
Contrast colours added to inner panels.
Top coat of off white to soften the effects overall.
Preventing overspray damage from second stage blue basing.
Vallejo Faded P.R.U. Blue followed by 71.277 Dark Gull Gray
For panel lines.
For panel lines.
Highlights using 71.299 Intermediate Blue.
Top coat of 71.295 USN Sea Blue
Taped prepared for final coat of blue.
Model prepared with Vallejo's 77.657 Gloss Metal Varnish prior to applying transfers.
Dark blue and brown oil wash added
Wings attached along with glass
Getting to the end of the process, intend to add more weathering effects to the wing and oil stains to the hood

Looking at this kit it is not the most amazing mould and having a look at the time line for the product it is no surprise, with new parts having only been added in '89. A rather simple build so far with nothing amazing to talk about but this project will be down to the paint job which I was expecting.

Thanks Vincent. Wanting to weather this once transfers are down by reluctant as I am scared to ruin the clean look 😅

Getting close to the end of this project and have been looking online for some weather effected examples. Hoping to take some inspiration and add the last details before finishing this build.

Thanks Villiers, I must admit it got more enjoyable once the paintwork started coming together 😁
