These last 7 months have been intense for our family: My dad was in and out of hospital and recently died from a heart condition.
He was a prolific railway modeller up until 2020 when my mum died, so we have around 60 years worth of model railways, tools and equipment to deal with!
What better legacy to remember him than to use some of his tools and equipment.
I now have a lifetime supply of plasticard sheet and we never did find out why he had 7 pots of glue!!
Makes you wonder our own modelling legacy will be?
Right let's crack on with my projects

Sorry for your loss. Are you into trains as well? I would dabble if I had the space.

Sorry for your loss.
Regarding your interesting question about the own modelling legacy:
As long you are young (I guess most of the Scalemates users are young) you don't care much. That will be different if you get older.
If I see the huge stash of many modelers here I guess some kits will go trashed or sold. When the optimistically estimated remaining lifetime divided by the number of kits in the stash has reached the seconds range, one should think about it.
There is a joke about it: "When I die, I hope my wife doesn't sell the kits at the prices I quoted her ...."
As usual I hope to be able to convert my stash to models. 😉
And what about the build ones? I hope that my collection end up in a museum (I have one in my mind and had a short talk about this after a visit there).
Sorry for your loss.

Thanks guys, Bill I work on the railways so Ihave an interest that's all. As a youngster I helped my dad with his model railway then in my teens I moved onto 1/87 trucks then 1/25-24 vehicles.
bug hunter you are spot on. All my 16 year old can see are ££££. Luckily he does not know which are the valuable ones (so far!)

I have more than enough to build for my anticipated lifetime (233 and counting). My wife will likely not have the wherewithal to sell them off. My sons could probably care less as well. If I am still cognizant towards the very end, I will probably arrange to have some place like Model Roundup buy the whole collection and cycle them back into the community that way. As far as the builts go, it is a shame that so much time and effort will probably end up in a landfill but I sure enjoyed them while I built them. And, as a lawyer explained to me once, do you REALLY care what happens to you stuff when your gone? It is your PEOPLE you love that is your real legacy.

Shit dude, only just stumbled upon this 🙁
So, absolutely, my condolences to you and your family.
Recently, I lost my sister and brother, within 10 days of eachother. We probably were going through the same thing, at the same time?
Before my sister left us, she gave me a few things of our dads. Not model related, but his passion, his hobby.
My dad got me into trains, as a kid. Hornby, as we knew it. Being a working class family, with 1 bread winner, during the 70's, I had nothing. Just Action Man. Ended up with the coolest Action Man collection, on the estate! But still no trains. Early 80's, an luck struck, in the form of a Mainline train set! Then the dreams started! Still never had chance to build a huge layout, but I managed an 8x4. Nearly 30 years later, and I fell into the trap. Literally, bought everything I ever wanted, as a kid. Again, nobody told me that I'd need a warehouse, to build my dream! Scaled down to N gauge, and I still have the whole lot of everything! Both UK and USA, N gauge/Scale, and UK OO gauge, and USA N Scale. Two mini layouts built, and no place to put them! But that stuff, follows me around, like a traffic warden! Why do I do it? I honestly don't know? Nostalgia, because I can, because it was my dream? I can't tell you why, because I honestly don't know myself? I have my model truck collection now, and I love building, so I don't even have the time to keep up with any of it?
But I will say this....
I just know, that my dad would've been in my cave, more than me, and I can guarantee, them friggin trains would be running 😉
Keep it real brother, and do what you believe is right 🙂

Hey Bozzer thank you 🙏 so sorry for your own loss. It makes you think when loved ones are gone
If I'm honest my dad had so much stuff that we just could not keep all of it. Out of the four grandchildren, only my eldest lad is into railways, so we all kept items as mementos, the rest has gone to fellow railway enthusiasts, which my dad would have been pleased with, hence very little modelling of my own!
Oh well, we are two-thirds of the way through selling the railway items, then onto the buses and vehicles not forgetting my mum's dolls houses and teapots!!
All of our family are creative in many different ways - computers, model cars, full-size classic cars, needlework, DIY, and painting so the legacy will live on.
