![Album image #2 Album image #2](/albums/img/0/0/8/1534008-53285-82-720.jpg)
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/1/3/4/1534134-53285-14-720.jpg)
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/4/8/6/1534486-53285-56-720.jpg)
The Nakajima Sakae 11 engine is ready, detailed with 0.3 and 0.5 lead wires.
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/9/8/0/1534980-53285-53-720.jpg)
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/9/8/5/1534985-53285-49-720.jpg)
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/9/9/7/1534997-53285-53-720.jpg)
Little will be visible from all the detail. Regardless, the bombardier now received a small 3mm big picture of his girlfriend - a genuine 1940s portrait (I wish I had a printer with higher resolution)
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/5/2/8/1535528-53285-92-720.jpg)
It starts to like like an airplane. Thanks to the Hasegawa engineering, no filling required, just some minor sanding.
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/9/6/9/1535969-53285-30-720.jpg)
Adding the rivet lines.
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/0/3/4/1545034-53285-94-720.jpg)
Primed with Mr Surfacer 1500 black.
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/0/3/3/1545033-53285-21-720.jpg)
The rivets turned out better than I hoped.
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/0/3/5/1545035-53285-90-720.jpg)
Pre-shading
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/0/3/6/1545036-53285-68-720.jpg)
Spraying the silver base layer.
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/0/3/7/1545037-53285-32-720.jpg)
Brown mottling, as the original aircraft had barely visible brown patches in the green colour.
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/0/3/8/1545038-53285-29-720.jpg)
Masking the underside to spray the green top side.
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/0/3/9/1545039-53285-20-720.jpg)
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/0/4/0/1545040-53285-72-720.jpg)
Masking the ribs of the fabric control surfaces, to spray the fabric in a lighter colour.
![Album image #18 Album image #18](/albums/img/0/4/1/1545041-53285-42-720.jpg)
Turned put quite OK, I think.
![Album image #19 Album image #19](/albums/img/0/4/2/1545042-53285-86-720.jpg)
I cut-plotted a full set of markings on my Silhouette Portrait 3.
![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/0/4/3/1545043-53285-27-720.jpg)
The 22 turned out great - a promising start for the new plotter ?
![Album image #21 Album image #21](/albums/img/0/4/5/1545045-53285-99-720.jpg)
Spraying the top wing roundels.
![Album image #22 Album image #22](/albums/img/0/4/4/1545044-53285-56-720.jpg)
...and the tail code.
![Album image #23 Album image #23](/albums/img/2/5/2/1545252-53285-46-720.jpg)
To take a break from masking roundels and all the small stuff, I masked and sprayed the black nose.
![Album image #24 Album image #24](/albums/img/2/5/3/1545253-53285-78-720.jpg)
With the cowling the Kate already looks like a proper airplane.
![Album image #25 Album image #25](/albums/img/9/0/3/1545903-53285-87-720.jpg)
Masking to create the fabric effect on the control surfaces undersides.
![Album image #26 Album image #26](/albums/img/9/0/4/1545904-53285-93-720.jpg)
![Album image #27 Album image #27](/albums/img/9/0/2/1545902-53285-75-720.jpg)
As the fuselage Hinomaru turned out much brighter than the tailcode and overwing roundels, I re-masked them and sprayed another layer of Hinomaru Red, this time with one drop of pure red.
![Album image #28 Album image #28](/albums/img/9/0/5/1545905-53285-46-720.jpg)
Calling all the masking work done 🙂
![Album image #29 Album image #29](/albums/img/9/0/6/1545906-53285-70-720.jpg)
So far, on the outside not a single brush stroke or decal - 100% airbrush.
![Album image #30 Album image #30](/albums/img/0/5/5/1547055-53285-56-720.jpg)
Adding the Eduard PE to the tail gunners machine gun.
![Album image #31 Album image #31](/albums/img/2/2/1/1547221-53285-67-720.jpg)
The final airbrush masks to be used.
![Album image #32 Album image #32](/albums/img/2/2/0/1547220-53285-92-720.jpg)
Finally Kate can stand on her own feet.
You might note that I deviated from the instructions, which call for the landing gear to be all silver. But some photos on the internet suggest the lower part was black.

![Album image #33 Album image #33](/albums/img/2/2/2/1547222-53285-74-720.jpg)
Landing gear and prop are on. The torpedo is primed, the proper colours should arrive tomorrow.
![Album image #34 Album image #34](/albums/img/4/8/7/1547487-53285-77-720.jpg)
Chipping is on. Not really sure about it though.
![Album image #35 Album image #35](/albums/img/3/4/2/1548342-53285-35-720.jpg)
Creating glass with Micro Kristal Klear.
![Album image #36 Album image #36](/albums/img/3/4/3/1548343-53285-97-720.jpg)
Let's let it dry a couple of hours.
![Album image #37 Album image #37](/albums/img/4/7/6/1548476-53285-89-720.jpg)
Major milestone today - the masks are off 🙂
Work left: position lights, polish the canopy and most importantly the torpedo

![Album image #40 Album image #40](/albums/img/8/2/6/1548826-53285-80-720.jpg)
The wooden stabiliser cage for the torpedo.
![Album image #41 Album image #41](/albums/img/3/6/2/1549362-53285-74-720.jpg)
A nice shiny torpedo.
![Album image #42 Album image #42](/albums/img/3/5/9/1549359-53285-80-720.jpg)
The torpedo is on. Pitty the nice wooden cage did not fit :/

![Album image #44 Album image #44](/albums/img/3/6/1/1549361-53285-49-720.jpg)
98% done.
![Album image #45 Album image #45](/albums/img/3/6/0/1549360-53285-41-720.jpg)
I added a blob of Kirstal Klear to resemble the upper wing position lights.
![Album image #46 Album image #46](/albums/img/4/2/7/1549427-53285-91-720.jpg)
All the small things - happy the small portrait of the navigator's girl turned out quite nicely ?
![Album image #47 Album image #47](/albums/img/6/5/9/1555659-53285-95-720.jpg)
I messed up the kit exhaust pipes, trying to drill them open. So I will replace them with a pair of pipes cut from an ear bud. Also ready is the brass pitot tube, made from 0.4, 0.6 and 0.8 mm pipes.

Thanks Mark 😊
Thanks Vincent! Just a pitty barely anything will be visible, once the fuselage is closed.

It was a privilege to see the cockpit before it was sealed in. What a lovely exterior as well. I'm digging out my unbuilt kit right now…
