Album info
Hi, this is my rendition of an I-15 in service with Grupo 26 during the Spanish Civil War.
Nice kit though it shows its age. Some details are left to the builder or overly simplified (i.e. the engine and its surroundings, the very prominent fairings for the flying wires). I added the following:
-New propeller hub, designed in Fusion 360 and printed in resin with an Elegoo Mars 2.
-Pushrods, exhaust stacks, fuel/air ducts and ignition wires to the cylinders. Had to modify the front cowling in order to allow the pushrods to pass through, and the engine mount zone, to allow for the fuel/air admission ducts to fit.
-Ventilation slots on the engine fairing, with partially open blinds on each slot.
-Fairings for the flying wires (albion alloys tubing faired with milliput...I'm certain I did it more complicated than was needed).
-Drain tubes in the lower fuselage surfaces.
-Rigging/flying wires with some thick elastic thread I had lying around. (I don't know how well it will age, esp. covered in paint. We shall see...)
-I redid the fairings (with milliput) for the landing gear legs-fuselage interfaces, which were apparently too small.
-Fairings for the inter-wing struts, which were absent in the kit.
Fit of the upper wing was challenging. I added a spacer in the fuselage to open it up a bit. I made a really stupid choice in fitting the lower wings first. That made for some real fun when fitting the upper wing. If you were to build one of these, do yourself a favour ande go for the upper wing in the first place.
It is completely brush-painted with Vallejo acrylics over a coat of spraycan Vallejo primer.
