Not easy decals! Couple of clear coats n be ok.

Hi Mr D! Normally, a couple of gloss coats would be my go to. In this case the decals lie over details as my duvet lies over the pillows on my bed. No way they are snuggling down over the structural bands across the tank. I have no hope the decals will set correctly over the fuselage when that is done. 🙁

Reminds me of my Tamiya Meteor where the kit decals just refused to settle on any detail. I heard that Solvaset is pretty strong but sometimes a different softner works better. My go-to softners are AK decal adapter, Daco decal setting red (strong version) and good-old Microsol. Or slice with a sharp knife, apply softner and touch-up with black paint where required. Try some other brands of softner before slicing, it just might work.

Hi tyu, the only brand I haven't used is AK. I'll see if my LHS stocks it before committing to any cleaner to get a blank canvas. Update fill follow then.

Before you start ripping the decals off after everything fails there is a trick but it is very aggressive on decals and be very carefull when applying on acrylic paint: try brush some isopropyl alcohol (IPA) on the affected area. Household paint thinner also does the trick but even more caution required since it will attack both oil and acrylic paint. In both cases start with a damped brush and gradually try to work wetter until it conforms. Nothing to lose when everything else fails and you plan to rip them off anyway.

Solvaset is the nuclear option for sure. I have found that it works best if you let the decal dry at least 6 hours before applying it. Previously I have just applied the decal, pressed it down to get rid of the excess water and then applied some Solvaset after a few minutes and the clear film looked exactly like yours. These were Hasegawa decals and so not silk screened, but the effect on yours strongly reminded me of how mine looked. The problem went away after I left the decals overnight then came back with some solution and the decals settled nicely.

I was putting the roundels on my Tamiya Harrier today, one of the roundels decided to rip in the white area!!
I had to paint the white all in with AK White to cover exposed rip.
It's not to bad now cleared in, not as bad as l thought it was going to be.
Do your best to tidy n work though it, Annoying l know!

I tried some IPA but nothing seems to budge. I'll keep working it in progressively and see what happens.
