BA-20 Construction
Frame with exhaust and rear suspension dry-fitted
Frame, exhaust, cooler, steering rod and suspension pre-painted
Frame fitted to the lower chassis
Wheels and brake drums pre-painted
Wheels fixed (nearly no profile on the wheels) and weathering started.
Upper chassis with ejector pin marks.
Base coat inside upper chassis. I don't like the colour of the seats and will change this..
Replaced handles on the engine hood with wire ones.
Outside door handles replaced with wire.
Inside door handles also replaced with wire.
Since the first door handles were a bit to big, I changed it using thinner wire.
The offset of the molds is quite challenging sometimes. Check out the position lights. Right side - the original, left side - reworked one.
Bulb of headlight made by using the head of needle!
Tried something new for me as a brush-painter - PRESHADING! I don't know, if it will have any effect on the final result. I'll find out.
Headlights completed. The white bulbs do look quite good, but silver ones would been more realistic. At least the positonlights on the fender look better than before (check pic 12 for comparison).
Taillights painted with silver, clear red and and a coat of gloss varnish.
First coat of paint is done. There isn't much left of the pre-shading.
Another coat of paint might be necessary.
A bit of the pre-shading can be seen on hood, but the painting isn't very smooth. The roof will have to be painted once more.
As long as you close the radiator covers, you can leave them as they are. Since I'll go to show them open, I cut off the excess, which isn't there in reality.
The radiator covers can be opened/closed from inside the car by a wire. I try to replicate this using aluminium foil and thin wire.
Radiator covers in place. You don't see much anymore of the opening mechanism.
Front with open radiator covers
The only tool on this vehicle.
The upper chassis still needs to be pushed down at the back.
The wheels still need some clear satin coat, then a slight weathering will follow.
No scratches, just a bit of dirt.
Not very fancy, bit good enough for me.
That's it as far as I'm ready to go now..

Planned to be finished within one weekend.... 🙁 It shouldn't happen.
Lot of filler needed. Mold seams are quite extensive. It's more hand-crafting than just glue together, but it's still fun. 😄

Hi Roy, initial idea was to build it OOTB, just to get something ready, before I continue the other projects. 30 years ago it would have worked, but now...?
Once one looked at reference pics it starts. Hmm, this looks different and could be changed. And this, and that, and...

Maybe it will last longer than only one weekend but I think the result will be great!

Thanks for the support, guys! I'm fighting with the interior white. I guess, this will become the only colour, I will spray in future. Need to get a bottle of spray white....

Nearly no progress. Just replaced inside and outside door handles with wire.
I had to break up the upper hull again, because it didn't fit straight on the lower hull.

Hmm, hast Recht, Frank. Ich schau mal, was ich noch im Fundus hab. Im Original betrachtet sehen sie gar nicht so wuchtig aus. Der Makro zeigt es dann wieder. 🙁

If you were wondering, why there was no progress, have a look at pic no. 12 and compare right and left position light on the front fenders.
The offset of the molds is quite challenging sometimes. So I couldn't decide what to do until I made a decision today and cut off all the excess mold.
I also changed the door handles thanks to Ralf Schuster's advise (Thanks, Ralf). I hope they do look better now.

Some more pics added. I tried something new - at least new for me as a brush-painter - preshading. I have no idea, if this will have any effect on the final result. We'll see.

Thanks, guys! That's the motivation I need to get this one done.
@Roy: A bit more than 20 years ago I made a try with a badger airbrush and messed up a Tamiya Jagdpanther. So I decided that it is not my thing and continued with (H)airbrushes...
@Acki: Those big headlights looked so empty. What else should I do?😉
@Mike: Dein 8,8 Sd.Kfz.8 hat mich an den Basteltisch zurückgetrieben.
@Christian: Vor Ätzteil und Co. musste man sich was einfallen lassen. Scheint, da ist was hängengeblieben.

Thanks, William! I still do hope that MiniArt will hear the voices of Russian armour fans and do some BA-1, -3, -6, -10 based on their fantastic GAZ-AAA.

Thanks, guys, for your encouraging words.
@Philip: I've uploaded 3 more pics with the first result. The overall impression - uneven paintresult. The roof for sure must be painted once again. The other parts - I'm thinking about to leave it like it is with minor corrections, because it gives the BA-20 a used look. A coat with satin clear enamel should do it followed by washes and detail painting.

Some update on detailing. I thinned the radiator covers and added the open-/closing mechanism made of household goods. Once assembled to the hood you don't see much anymore of the mechanism.

Well, last 3 pics added. Just a bit dirt added, no scratches or heavy weathering. Nothing to win any prices, but it looks good in the showcase. So that's it for me for the time being.

Thank you, guys, that you like my old BA-20.

Ehrlich gesagt keine Ahnung, Jens.
