After 7+ years of not touching it, finally trying to get this one to the finish line. Decals in progress, drop tanks and Rb-24s painted...

Took a while (and a lot of mistakes), but decals are just about done. Basically had to ignore the instruction's recommendations for applying them, and figure it out for myself.

The good news in having taken the long break is that the book Swedish Jet Fighter Colours was published and told me that I used the wrong colour for the underside. Getting the repainting done is probably what got me back into this kit.

Decals finally on! Two coats of gloss and two flat, but I still couldn't get rid of some of the silvering on the decals (the serial number over the Wing number, for example).

Despite the challenge of the decals, still pretty happy with where I'm at...

That's looking good so far. What kind of problems are you having?

Thanks Roy. Basically just having rotten beginner's luck with Alps-printed decal sheets. I'm trying to use the Flying Colours Aerodecals set on this kit that features the Acro Hunters demo team among the options. I thought that starting with one of the bigger decals might be the easier way to go, but alas, the roundel shattered into a thousand little pieces. I then tried some of the stencilling on the underside of the fuselage and actually managed to get a couple in place and in one piece, but also lost a couple in the process. I'm thinking that I need to give the sheet a coat of Micro film(?) before I carry on, and will have to buy another decal sheet for replacements and spares. Any additional tips you might have are appreciated.

Peter, I had some decals that would shatter into small pieces. I sprayed the whole sheet with Testors Decal Bonder item #9200, comes in a small 85g spray can. When you use this stuff give it a few light coats and let it dry, I gave mine 24 hours. Then you have to cut each decal out as close as possible. Basically the whole sheet is carrier film. I don't know what Micro Film is but if it's the same thing give it a try. By the way are those decals old?

Roy, thanks for the info. Yes, I think Micro Film is the same kind of stuff as what you're using, but in a spray can, it sounds much easier. I'll have to keep an eye out for it next time I'm in the hobby shop. The decals weren't that old, and I kept them in the ziplock in a file box, so I don't think those were issues. I think it's just my lack of experience in working with these kinds of decals. I better learn soon though; a lot of my priority projects will require Alps decals! Thanks again...Peter

Peter, nothing worse than doing a great job on a kit only to have the decals ruin things.
