******Humbrol: ich habe ein Problem!!*******
Komentáře
I will see what I have, I too work with the old paints over the new.. if I can get them.
In meiner Sammlung sind diverse Revell Farben und Humbrol 186, 91, 53, 120 (2x) und 97. Kann ich gerne abgeben.
It might be a good idea to tape a piece of paper with the name of the paint onto the tiny buckets of paint. I did that.
First I would like to thank google translate. My High School German didn't get past the subject title very well. Anyways to make sure I understand what you are looking for. Humbrol tins with a sticker = yeck no like. Humbrol tins with no sticker = Ya Ser Gut. So what about the tins that have the Humbrol number stamped into them. Gut or Niche so Gut?? 😛
*Disclaimer - I apologize for offending any German speaking people for attempting to use my decades old attempt to speak German from High School ('70's)
Hello mates, thank you for your postings. I'm very surprised about the comments in English. I posted my problem/question in german because it was too complex to describe this in my not the best english (my wife is for one week in Denmark: she helps me everywhere to translate of complex text 🙂).
Now I will try to describe in a few words my problem in English. It's correct: the new tins (new formula) have a sticker. The old tins (old formula) have no sticker.
I'm looking at this time for only 5 colors/tins: gloss red (19), gloss yellow (69) semimatt black (85), semimatt white (130) and semimatt yellow (188 ) . I have enough tins of other paints.
Guten Morgen Alex, guten Morgen Tom. Freut mich sehr über eure schnelle Antwort. So wie beschrieben fehlen mir in der Tat nur diese fünf genannten Farben. Hatte Glück über eBay Kleinanzeigen, hier und da genug von den sonstigen Farben zu erwischen.
Bernhard, the new stuff is indeed crap just beware that some of the older paints (white lid with sticker) are IIRC 70's 80's era which is usually wonderful paint to work with
Hi Augie, thank you for the tip. Indeed: i had luck and bought in german eBay 2 6-pack sets of HU authentics for german Railways. I think that the tins are 30-40 years old and despite of that this was a pleasure to brushing and dried in few hours.
Are the ones that have the number stamped on the lid good or bad? I am checking my Humbrol stash and so far I have stickers and the ones with the number stamped on the lid.
Hi Robbie, the stamped ones are more difficult I am sorry to say.
The older ones are superb, any post 2016 seem to be very much hit and miss as to if they are ok.
If they are encrypted-tbn0.gstat..llGVgZNaPr5m7qfBpVhw
Then they should be fine.
If they are encrypted-tbn0.gstat..gOVvWv-T7L-xM2KvuSJw
then mileage will vary
I am confused. In the pic. What is the difference between the 2nd tin on the left (with a green check) with the 3 red X ones on the right? The logo all looks the same and they have the stamped number on the lid
Interesting... I stopped using Humbrol several years ago, but I think I still have some boat in the stash.
Following this interesting discussion.
Robbie, sadly its also the pot label which you need to use to identify the bad.. The 2nd on the left will have been made in the UK, the 2nd on the right will have been made in china when Humbrol moved production to reduce costs. This is where there can be confusion as they didn't change the label at the time.
The others on the right are post production move.
Well, it looks like the tins I have fall into the 2nd and 3rd from the right. I have a couple on the left but not what Bernhard is looking for. If anything I sure got a lesson on Humbrol paints.
Hi Augie, I looked at my set of Humbrols (a lot of old and new ones) and the latest I have (most recent production batch) mention "Made in England". Do you know if production has been brought back to GB ? And has the formulation changed back to the better kind ?
More concisely : is the problem (only) with the Chinese production batches ?
Hi Boris, wow this ones an old one 🙂
Humbrol paints are back in the UK and produced in London & Manchester.... sadly that's where the good news ends, the formulations are still hit and miss.. I have many new pots where I can take the lid off, turn the pot upside down and nothing will spill, I have others that are so thin, I leave the lid off for a day or so to try an thicken them, or where the pigment simply will not mix into the carrier fluid.
Indeed the new paints are completely different from the old ones. In the meantime I'm using only the old batches. In the last years I had a lot of luck and bought on eBay and EBay Kleinanzeigen enough tints for the next 20 years. 🙂
I too am doing the exact same thing Bernhard 🙂 Where I have to, now using XtraColor (Hannants own brand) and its much like the Humbrols of old.. that just work
I have couple of the old ones (Humbrol and Revell too) and I'm willing to get rid of them if anyone's interested. Unfortunately not the ones, Bernhard is looking for 🙁
The Humbrols I have from the series marked green by Bernhard: 5, 10, 25, 30, 34, 38, 48, 49, 51, 54, 60, 61, 62, 64, 66, 75 (2x), 78, 82, 86, 90, 94 (might have dried), 95, 100, 104, 105 (used on my cancelled Cobra build), 108 (use on my Cierva C.30), 116, 117, 118, 121, 126, 145, 148, 155, 159, 160, 164, 186
Revells: 1, 49, 62, 67, 79, 80, 91, 310, 350, 351, 380
Got couple of Revell Airbrush enamels too (the yellow and red stickers).
As I'm not using enamels anymore I can give them away, charging the postage only 🙂
I'll check the content on request of course, some of them are 30yrs old 🙂

(the ones at the very bottom are Xtracolor enamels)
Hello Lukasz, If Bernhard is not finiding his wishes in your lot, and if you're sure you don't want them anymore, I would be happy to trade them for something of mine. I'm quite fond of Humbrols. Maybe it's that enamel smell 😉
I'm particularly interested in the ones above 100 (to keep it simple), but I can take them all if you prefer dealing with only one package. And again, for some sort of compensation (on top of shipping) !
Hi Boris. My good friend Maciej Bellos was first to ask, so you're next in the queue. He said he needs couple of days to decide and all the remaining ones will be for your disposal. Should me switch to PM? 🙂
Late to the party, but I mourn the loss of the old Humbrol No.11 'Silver Fox'. 😭
I'm surprised to see such an interest in old Humbrols. Before the bat plague each modelling event I visited locally had at least one seller of huge amount of old enamel tins and nobody was buying them 😮
I tried to mate enamels with UV-cut varnishes few times and it doesn't work. So a time for the garage sale😉
I heard some rumours about legendary Model Master enamel chrome which is even harder to get, but forgot the numbering 🙁
1790, more than 10 years ago I got one from a shop, which had a nice collection of MM. Sadly, It has been closed for more than 5 years...
I have never tried these, but I find the Humbrol Metal Cote (27001/2/3/4) very good when brushing. Their regular Siler (11) is pretty bad though, unless you want a very dull 'silver'.
Boris - yes, that is what I meant (and I see Maciej agrees 👍 ). The current #11 is virtually grey- the old formula was almost as good as chrome!! The Metal Cotes are quite good, but can be less forgiving. 😠
I'm agree with mates... Humbrol 11 early was very good, but late 11 seems pale metallic, almost gray. I was extremely disappointed when I opened the bottle and applied the paint. I have also had some Metal Cote with good results.
Album info
Hallo Mates,
H85 (schwarz seidenmatt)
H130 (weiß seidenmatt)
H69 (glänzend gelb)
H19 (glänzend rot)
