Since the original model from the kit was a Vespa 50s, the nose had to be remade.

The glovebox was to be made also. The original seat was recycled into the extended fuel tank, and the rear light was repositioned.

The girl from the kit suffered a head transplant, also the shorts weren't the most suitable clothes for a Dakar!

In 1980 Piaggio was enrolled in the toughtest rally of the world, the Dakar rally. Four Vespas were registered in the race, two of them finished it, being Marc Simonot with the Vespa #8 the top finisher with a 28th position. Only 30 of the 90 motos that started the rally finished it.
