Attempted to do the cockpit frames. With less than steady hands these days, and without cockpit masks, I think it's going to look horrible if I went further. See the picture of the Val's cockpit later. Too many frames.

I have the same or similar kit. Building all mine (if I get that far into the stash) all from the Kaga. Even picked up a the Kaga kit (1/700) to maybe display behind the 3 planes. For some reason I have this thing with the Kaga. Don't know why. Oh like you, free hand canopy frame painting attempts I have long given up. I took the plunge and got masks.

Thanks your comment, Robbie. The three planes I built were from the Akagi, and that's got me interested in building the Akagi now. Looking at the instructions of Hasegawa's 1/700 (43167), I was pleasantly surprised to see that the three specific aircraft are included in the miniature planes in the kit. I've attached screenshots of the instructions in the album.
