What if WWII German converted IL-28
New rudder, elevators and remote controlled turret.
Tail, rudder and elevators made of plasticard with panel lines inscrived.
First general fit test. Wings and engine nacelles already joined. The joints are not very good. Putty and sanding were required.
Control stick, pedals and side console added to transform the cockpit of the bomber into the cockpit of the pilot.
Two bits of plasticard added to correct de misalignment of the bomb bay.
I will try with several pill and googly eyes blisters to make the remote turret control post. For the actual remote turret i will use half plastic bead.
Upper color applied after a more than liberal application of putty in joints and sanding. Joints in this model are not very good, specially in fuselage-wings and wings-nacelles.
Chipping and "post shading" applied. I was about to give up. The masking to apply the red and black was a complete disaster. Lots of leaks and peeling paint. After a lot of suffering, swearing, sweat and tears (my hand firmness is everything but firm) I managed to fix it more or less.
I will put a Hydra decal in the red area to add this model to my 262 and horten hydra what ifs.
Decals applied. I have made a custom decalsheet and used several stencils from my spares box.

I don't know how you came up with that idea, but I like it 👍

I had been seeing this model for a long time in various online stores at 6-7 euros and always thought it was big and cheap. But I didn't quite like the plane. I realized that if it weren't for the pilot's cockpit the plane could be something like a bigger AR 234 Blitz. I just needed to give it a little earlier look by replacing the rudder and elevators et voila!. I did some preliminary designs using blueprints and illustrations from internet and I saw that the idea could have potential. Thanks for the like, Alexander 🙂

Interesting idea and implementation, the reference to Hydra is funny, I like it 👍

Excellent "what if" - looks like something straight out of John Birmingham's "Axis of Time" series! 👏👏

I'm sure you'll enjoy them, Amenofys, there are 6 novels in total and if I remember well he is planning a further 3. Could be lots of ideas for more "what's if" projects! 🤔

I am not totally satisfied with the work but it will have to be enough. I had never done such a big model. Some issues fixed somehow. The canopy masks I bought were for the Italeri model and didn't fit, so I had to make new ones. I made the transparent dome with a googly eye cover. The next one will be better.

Album info
Il-28 converted to look as a WWII Luftwaffe jet bomber. Somewhat like a big brother to the Arado 234. Elevators, tail and rudder from scratch.
