The Arrow Graphics decals worked perfectly, despite being more than 25 years old.
![Album image #2 Album image #2](/albums/img/3/2/6/1143326-30596-62-720.jpg)

The Hobbycraft kit is very basic and has some inaccuracies, but as far as I know, it is currently the only 1:72 kit in existence.

Clear parts in place. The canopy is very thick.

Alclad 2 white primer/filler is my choice for finding surface defects.

I airbrushed the whole airframe with Tamiya Gloss White.

Testor's Model Master Acrylic Guards Red is a good match for the CAF colour from that period.

The nose gear doors and smoke oil tanks.

Tamiya NATO Black is used for the anti-glare panel.

The roundels went on very well.

The Snowbird logo on the rudder was adopted for the 1973 season.

![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/3/2/1/1143321-30596-67-720.jpg)
No pitot tube in the kit, so I scratchbuilt my own from styrene rod. The spiral stripe on the pitot tube is a strip of red decal material. This is very tricky!
![Album image #21 Album image #21](/albums/img/3/2/0/1143320-30596-49-720.jpg)
The tip of the pitot is made from stretched sprue.

A green navigation light from CMK Resin finishes off the wingtip.

The 1971 colour scheme for the debut of Canada's Display Team.

The kit also has no oil line details for the smoke system on the Snowbirds version, so some styrene rod was used, pre-formed and connected with Tamiya Extra Thin Cement.
![Album image #32 Album image #32](/albums/img/3/5/1/1143351-30596-68-720.jpg)
The ends of the smoke oil lines are formed where they enter the tail fairing.
![Album image #33 Album image #33](/albums/img/3/5/0/1143350-30596-11-720.jpg)
I made the rear smoke pipe fairing from an aluminium printer's plate.
![Album image #34 Album image #34](/albums/img/3/5/5/1143355-30596-74-720.jpg)
The lines in place with Tamiya Tape for attachment straps.
![Album image #35 Album image #35](/albums/img/3/5/3/1143353-30596-92-720.jpg)

Fine solder replicates the lines from the oil manifold to the tanks.
![Album image #37 Album image #37](/albums/img/3/7/0/1143370-30596-75-720.jpg)
Fine solder bent into a U shape replicates the smoke oil tubing.
![Album image #38 Album image #38](/albums/img/3/7/1/1143371-30596-34-720.jpg)
Glue the closed end of the solder U into the pipe fairing.
![Album image #39 Album image #39](/albums/img/3/7/2/1143372-30596-71-720.jpg)
Use a round tool to bend the solder into place.
![Album image #40 Album image #40](/albums/img/3/7/3/1143373-30596-24-pristine.jpg)
The finished pipes look very convincing.
![Album image #41 Album image #41](/albums/img/3/5/7/1143357-30596-61-720.jpg)
The kit landing gear is far too long!
![Album image #42 Album image #42](/albums/img/3/6/0/1143360-30596-64-720.jpg)
First, I cut the main gear struts and removed the correct amount.
![Album image #43 Album image #43](/albums/img/3/5/8/1143358-30596-17-720.jpg)
The nose gear had to be shortened as well.
![Album image #44 Album image #44](/albums/img/3/6/1/1143361-30596-99-720.jpg)
Then drill a hole in the center of the struts.
![Album image #45 Album image #45](/albums/img/3/5/9/1143359-30596-83-720.jpg)
Same process for the nose gear.
![Album image #46 Album image #46](/albums/img/3/6/2/1143362-30596-26-720.jpg)
A short length of styrene rod will strengthen the connection.
![Album image #47 Album image #47](/albums/img/3/6/3/1143363-30596-26-720.jpg)
After shortening the struts, it looks more accurate.
![Album image #48 Album image #48](/albums/img/3/6/6/1143366-30596-35-720.jpg)
I did the 1973 scheme on the starboard side, with the new Snowbirds logo on the rudder.
![Album image #49 Album image #49](/albums/img/3/6/5/1143365-30596-52-720.jpg)
This is the 1971 scheme, with "The Big 2" logo on the rudder.
