M60A1, The Patton Tank that wasn't a Patton Tank.

I love these tracks. The very first thing I did when I popped the lid off.
![Album image #2 Album image #2](/albums/img/6/5/1/1200651-24952-33-720.jpg)
Deviated from the recommended assembly order and built the basic hull. Fit was good.

Found on the internet a while back (thanks internet). Jeff Lewis's M60 spotter's guide.

Grand plans to remove the "chin".
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/6/5/4/1200654-24952-73-720.jpg)
Making packing material.
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/6/5/3/1200653-24952-64-720.jpg)
Reinforcing just in case.....
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/5/1/9/1201519-24952-60-720.jpg)
While the turret dries...
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/5/1/7/1201517-24952-55-720.jpg)
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/5/1/8/1201518-24952-96-720.jpg)
Running gear was straight-forward, no surprises.
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/5/2/0/1201520-24952-17-720.jpg)
I vaguely remember that there was a reason that I intentionally installed the tracks going in different directions but I can't remember what it was....
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/5/2/1/1201521-24952-17-720.jpg)
The fenders fit on very nicely.
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/5/2/2/1201522-24952-58-720.jpg)
Leaving box handles A33 off until the end.
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/5/2/3/1201523-24952-19-720.jpg)
Basic turret shape.
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/5/2/4/1201524-24952-64-720.jpg)
Hopefully, the proof is in the pudding. "Chin" less.
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/5/2/5/1201525-24952-56-720.jpg)
This was all done by eye.
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/5/2/6/1201526-24952-65-720.jpg)
How accurate is it? I don't know but it's good enough for me and my display shelf.
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/8/8/5/1399885-24952-66-720.jpg)
I am not looking forward to this.
![Album image #18 Album image #18](/albums/img/8/8/6/1399886-24952-36-720.jpg)
Trying to be clever... One piece at a time. Allow to fully dry before moving on.
![Album image #19 Album image #19](/albums/img/8/8/7/1399887-24952-84-720.jpg)
...OK....
![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/8/8/8/1399888-24952-57-720.jpg)
Ok
![Album image #21 Album image #21](/albums/img/8/8/9/1399889-24952-75-720.jpg)
Oh, I screwed it up.... Didn't see it at first.
![Album image #22 Album image #22](/albums/img/8/9/0/1399890-24952-87-720.jpg)
The middle crossbar (N34) is backward (upside-down, whatever). JHC! Now what?
![Album image #23 Album image #23](/albums/img/8/8/4/1399884-24952-17-720.jpg)
While pondering fixes, I set the mesh up in its jig.
![Album image #24 Album image #24](/albums/img/8/9/1/1399891-24952-67-720.jpg)
I thought about it for a bit and decided to cut off the ends and swap them around.
![Album image #25 Album image #25](/albums/img/9/4/9/1399949-24952-35-720.jpg)
And..... It looks OK.
![Album image #26 Album image #26](/albums/img/8/9/4/1399894-24952-69-720.jpg)
Glued the stowage basket on and while it was drying, started working on the Commander's cupola. The barrel of the M85 was bent inside its packaging so I tried gently bending it straight.
![Album image #27 Album image #27](/albums/img/8/9/5/1399895-24952-24-720.jpg)
Installed the cut ends of the middle crossbar. While drying, the searchlight.
![Album image #28 Album image #28](/albums/img/8/9/6/1399896-24952-21-720.jpg)
Second screw-up. And again, didn't spot it at first.
![Album image #29 Album image #29](/albums/img/8/9/9/1399899-24952-85-720.jpg)
I forget where I got the power cable for the searchlight from. After much prodding and poking, its more or less in position.
![Album image #30 Album image #30](/albums/img/8/9/8/1399898-24952-13-720.jpg)
The tow cables themselves were ok but the fiddley little bracket doohickies, I found hard to place and they do not want to stay on the turret.
![Album image #31 Album image #31](/albums/img/8/9/2/1399892-24952-37-720.jpg)
![Album image #32 Album image #32](/albums/img/9/0/9/1399909-24952-52-720.jpg)
Aber 35 L-297 M85 barrel.
![Album image #33 Album image #33](/albums/img/9/5/0/1399950-24952-83-720.jpg)
Takom 2070 M47 (Sprue F) Turret Bin. I ordered from Takom. Sent them an email and four months (and $10 shipping) later...
![Album image #34 Album image #34](/albums/img/9/0/8/1399908-24952-27-720.jpg)
![Album image #35 Album image #35](/albums/img/9/4/8/1399948-24952-33-720.jpg)
I installed the carrying handles on the wrong sides. It's upside down.
![Album image #36 Album image #36](/albums/img/9/4/7/1399947-24952-34-720.jpg)
It's taken almost a year to suck up the courage to attempt to fix this. In hindsight, I should have assembled everything on the searchlight before installing it on the model....
![Album image #37 Album image #37](/albums/img/9/5/5/1399955-24952-14-720.jpg)
Turns out that I shouldn't have glued the front of the handle to the searchlight body. The cover slips under that part of the handle.
![Album image #38 Album image #38](/albums/img/9/5/4/1399954-24952-28-720.jpg)
Old school stowage basket, stowage bin

Looks like you identified it correctly, the storage bin came off a M-47. I have a very old IPMS Quarterly from the 20th century that has a picture of a row M60A1s with this bin attached to the back of the rack. IIRC, the M60A1s were painted MERDC, but the storage bin was still OD. Alas I am relying on memory of the caption, as the Quarterly was only B & W pictures.
