RandoThanks all, getting closer to painting. A ton of work has gone into smooth out and scribe the lines around the gear bays on both jets, not to mention persistent seams. Also turned my attention to sanding down and rescribing the fictitious bumps on the folding joints, which the RF-8 has as well. The RF-8 also has wedge-shaped plates on the droops, which were only present much later, so those were sanded down as well. There's still a few things I want to try to perfect before I begin painting. I also have to decide if I want to paint the wings separately, in all likelihood I'm going to glue them on first because I want the fuselage section to be flush.

RandoAlright, wings are on. I feel like this will make masking more complicated, but better for making sure they conform to the fuselage. I am so ready to paint these jets

RandoHi guys! Sergej that one will be 1/48 as I have the decals in that scale. Unsure at this point but there's a bunch of VF-24 jets that are great choices. Also there's Dick Schaffert's too
I got the CAT4 conversions for 1/48 coming in the mail. If they turn out to be good sets I have a few jets in mind including VF-84, since who can resist those flames?

CAT4 1:48 F-8 Crusader conversion - first look

The manufacturer issued this correction for the nose. Hopefully it works

RandoCAT4 coming to the rescue with what seems like a nice set of parts that can backdate the Hasegawa F-8E. While we all really want a full kit tooled by someone, getting conversion kits is the next best thing, and the ones out there are all but impossible to obtain, and none of them really capture the shape of the nose very well. Not anymore, for the moment at least. Tonight I got a good look at the nose shape of the new kit and find it compares well to reference photos. Next up is seeing how it fits on the F-8 fuselage, which means some plastic surgery.

RandoAdded some more photos comparing the kits with 1:48 F-8C scale drawings from the Muroc kit. So far I like the overall shape, but the front plate where the radome connects makes the nose a little too long overall. Might just need to shave it down and blend the shape some.

RandoBasically done! Aside from the rigging wire, which I will attach when it gets in. After that I'll upload the beauty shots. Now to clean up my very messy workbench and get the next project going!

John BallmanHans just saw your Crusader on Modeling Madness, awesome build. You really did a superb job on that old Monogram kit, I think you can graduate to better kits now.
