SO Djinn 1221 - in civil service
Found some reverences in the web,...this beautiful civilian version, still operated in France, caught my attention.
And here we go,.....
overview of the "multi media" content of this box (resin, vaccu, photoetched....).
Beside the fact that this kit is anyhow challenging - I only once received a kit where the windows were yellowed that bad. 🙁 no chance to use them
So some creativity was needed - I wanted to do this kit, but I was lacking replacement windows and I do not have a vacuum bench to do it myself in a more professional approach.
The first step was to create a cast with some plaster like stuff that I borrowed from my kids craft supplies.
The first step was to create a cast with some plaster like stuff that I borrowed from my kids craft supplies.
A thin PVC sheet from the packing of an electronic component that was already dumped was recovered from rubbish. Heated in the kitchen oven (make sure that chef is out for other bussiness) and in a stamp/press method using all my 3 hands I formed the canopy. 2 attempts for each cast...I went much better than expected.
Cutting away excess and making a first comparision - I already see that it was worth doing this exercise.
Starting with the cockpit details....
...and try to figure out if the front window will fit.
Started to work with the PE tailboom.
Put it all together to see if all fits and if its time to start with painting,.....
Fitting the selfmade cockpit/window pieces together was quite tricky. But finally they where in a shape that looked promising - so paint job was started.
...ready for assembly work now.

So I have started this gem 😉
The kit is anyhow nothing that one would call unpretentious and then it unvealed a "bonus" exersise when I opened the box. Transparent parts for the windows could not be used as they where yellowed quite bad. I took the challenge to redo it by myself.
@Robert - Thx for your interesst and welcome.

Looks like the oven sorta worked. For the future you can buy a great dental vacuform on Amazon for around 130 or you could make one much cheaper with a heat gun and a vacuum cleaner.

That's just my taste! You hit it exactly with your comment on the first picture: What a filigree beauty!
But can you build such a rarity? (As far as I know, Extratech is out of business? Some accessory kits had resurfaced at Karaya.) Yes, you can!
Watching for sure!

Juergen: du kriegst ein Orden, alleine für die Tapferkeit gegenüber diesem Kit (den Kit habe ich auch...). DIY-Klarteile sehen klasse aus. Bin gespannt aufs Gesamtergebnis.🙂
