I built them as kid when I lived in Germany during the 1970's. Love the different color plastic 🙂 It's more nostalgic than anything else.

Okay...I can see that. I wax nostalgic about Aurora, as that's who made the Great War airplane kits I was in to at the time.

With the newer kits, I've been surprised by Academy, as I didn't expect the quality. But it was the Tamiya Bubbletop Jug that impressed me. I also really enjoyed the Testors Dornier Do-24 kit, despite its frustrating strut issues. I found this kit to be 'quick and easy'...it's not rocket surgery...but I do note that the pieces fit together well and I did little in the way of filling and sanding. I must admit that I don't understand the attraction of the multiple color sprues in each kit...it makes it more difficult to attain a uniform color (meaning more paint in more coats).

For some reason, the Mystere IV is not readily available, in 1:72, at least. There are lots of Super Mystere, but few of the IV. I like the lines...but then, I tend to be a sucker for the aerodynamic lines of Dassault jets.

Kelly, do you prime before you paint?

I also miss the stands of old🙂 I have some old kits that have stands with them.

I don't prime as a matter of course, it's more a matter of necessity. When I have a significantly darker base styrene and I want a lighter color (I have a weakness for Canadian yellow and Coast Command white) over it, I have been known to use a primer. I have a standard Tamiya white primer, but I'm not particularly happy with it, as I think it has too much in the way of 'chunks'...for me it comes out a bit 'grainy'. I've just resorted to using a coat of the main color as the 'primer'...so, just 'another coat'.

Lately I have been using Alclad's Primer and Micro Filler primer. Comes in black, white and gray and ready to airbrush right out of the bottle.
