Never buy a kit this old

The kit was terrible (but free), but I've finally got the lights sorted out. Thank you evandesigns.com for the suggestion of motion sensor switches; they did the trick. On to painting finally!

The lights? These are what I have: captainjacksmodels.c..ases-460mm-Long.html. They worked great, but I wanted to add a remote switch but that didn't work. I ended up getting a motion sensor switch to do what I wanted, so I'm going to work on that next and get it finished.

thanks, no, i mean in picture 4 (7 was a typo) you have some nice shoots of the interior. where did you get them?

I can't help but wonder, are you having difficulty figuring out how to control the lights, or, do you only have control for one light, but require two controls?

@spanjaard: The interior was really basic so I scratch built some additions, like the rear chairs and parts of the console. I also found some diagrams of the cockpit walls in the Haynes manual for the Falcon and made color copies of them. I completely scratch built the quad gun stations because the kit had nothing there, you could just look straight through it.

@treehugger: the lighting kit has two separate circuits, each with its own power source. I'm planning to hang the kit in my office, so I didn't want to use the supplied toggle switches. I tried using a remote switch, but those each ended up needing their own power source to work and the model ended up having too many battery packs in it, and the remote switches drained too much power. I asked the folks at evandesigns.com and they suggested motion sensor switches to replace the toggles. I tried them and they worked perfectly. I just need to finalize the wiring and button it up before I paint.

Interesting. Presumably a motion sensor would require some power draw over time, if only ever so slightly.

thanks!

Yeah, the person at evandesigns told me that the motion sensor is much more passive and will draw a fraction of the power that the remote switch did.

I've decide to make up a paint scheme for the Falcon and feature a few of the blue stripes from Lando's days, and add a new patch that will have a partial Republic emblem on it to represent an armored patch that Han found from an old Republic Cruiser. The kit is so inaccurate that there isn't any point in trying to "accurate." But really, the filming models were so different from each other so accuracy doesn't mean ,much in things like this.
