The tank looks great! Looking forward to see the figures and the finished project. I imagine you will also build a little simple base everything will stand on?

Hi Robin, you really read my mind! Yes, I'm planning to learn how to build a simple base. I also need to figure out a few techniques, including creating water effects and soap bubbles.

There are a number of water solutions you can try out before applying them onto to your diorama and tank. These are a few I know of. Foam (Vallejo 26.231, No)
STILL WATER 250ML (AK Interactive AK 8008, No)
Water Foam Acrylic 100ml Bottle (AK Interactive AK 8036, No)
Maybe one of them works out for you.
There probably are also some DIY methods but I have no clue about those.

Great job, I really liked it, sheep like real ones !
I didn't like the exaggerated texture of the wood on the boards.

This build just keeps getting better and better! I love the nice touch of the sheep. IMHO, the wood looks right to me, I don't think they process and paint wood for fencing for farms, but then again, I'm not a farmer. 😀

Those sheep are amazing. I often find model animals to look like toys due to the fur. But these sheeps are brilliantly done. 🙂 Rui S also has a brilliant looking horse which comes to mind.

As for me, I want to thank Mr James and CaptGPF for your kind words. Apreciated.
I've never made any sheep, but I hope that when I do, I'll be able to achieve at least, half the great quality of this Eric's sheep 👍
So far I have done a bird, a chicken and its chick, a German Shepherd and a horse. I'm currently doing another dog.

It is indeed a difficult exercise to paint animals. I tried several techniques and finally I succeeded in this work with oil paintings by gradually going from the darkest to the lightest and with a succession of washes

Thank you Mona, that must have been a terrifying experience. The idea would be a fortified position in the Mekong Delta. I'm planning to build a sandback bunker and a piece of ricefield. The M113's will be stationary in a defensive position. Soldiers will be relaxed not knowing what is coming. But the layout is still evolving. Haven't decide the size of the groundwork yet. I'll be starting the diorama base soon... Will be continued 😉

Łukasz, you are absolutely right. The first project ended up with the half-finished model flying gracefully into the bin after one mistake too many. I am now giving it a second attempt, knowing the pitfalls in advance and also possibly being slightly more experienced. I am already past the line where I gave up the last time. To be quite honest, this kit is not that bad, it just needs a bit of persuasion and elbow grease.

I have been playing with the idea of making some PE to improve the platform structure, but the rudders certainly could use some improvements ...
In regards to the propeller, I believe the shape is the correct one. before it was moved to the museum, it had a diferent color, but the sub has been repaired several times in the last 100+ years. see how it looked like before moved to the museum

Ok, thanks for the information Spanjaard 👍🏻
The platform is not that bad, but the poles holding the rope are too flat, so these will be made from plastic rod.
Regarding the rudders, I'm not sure if I can live with carved kit part, I might have a go and try to scratch new ones.

I saw the rest of them, Spaniard. My main concern is, as a draughtsman, that the rest of components are drawn (with excepctional quality and ability) in vegetal paper using ink, ideal for making copies through hand tracing, those drawings for chandeliers, platform, gardeners and such are drawn with a graphite pencil over graph paper (high quality, made by Lapage), as a mere draft (again, drawn with excepctional skill for the epoch), but no other stardard drawing shows the assembly or the constructive drawing of the element.
Lapage stopped production in the 90s, and I am not sure if their products were available in 1890.

According to the drawings the support of the platform is a triangular shape, not like it is represented by mikromir. It would mean a lot of extra work to scratch these, so the chances of it being built without platform are increased significantly 😅

Thanks, mate, but Spaniard has a lot more information than me. I only can remember the sub lying on a city square many years ago and I cannot remember the platform, even the superstructure.
You know, the sub was decommissioned in the XIX century and was abandones as scrap till was used as a monument, so I think many parts have been lost and substituted by other similar. I Will follow your build with interest, subs are though: they do not give the modeler a lot of chance, so I bow my hat, mate.

for what i see in the pictures (never seen it live myself), Segio is right, there was no platform when it was in its pedestal in the square.
considering how close it was to be scrapped, we are lucky that the exterior has survived, platform and all interior were gone a long time ago.... I read an article saying that the engine used to recharge the battery still exists, but it is rusting away but politicians are not doing anything in order to add it to the exhibition before it becomes a pile of rust....

Spanjaard is right. Double layered glasses with an internal metallic wire were not uncommon in the past: also can be found today here in Spain in old medical facilities, schools and factories dating back the 40s, 50s and 60s, times when the use of plastic reinforcement elements like polyethylene was still expensive.
My concern here is: was this reinforcement system used in the XIX century? Arr these windows original or these glasses have been part of a later reconstruction in the XX century?
This mesh was intended to maintain the breaks on one side and not transmit them to the other side, like the impact proof windshields when know now in cars since the 50s-60s.

Well, after my investigation I noticed that this kind of mesh reindorced glass was first patented in 1892, near the year of construction of the sub, but five years after. So, these glasses probably have been added in a ayer reconstruction.

Thanks for all the effort guys, I appreciate it.🙏🏻
Looking at the technical drawing of the port hole, it is clear to me that there are two glass panes, and there is a metal mesh in between them. It is not like the wire glass, but a small grill between them.
I will paint it looking like glass, not sure if I can recreate the grill as it is very small.

Welcome, Jan! (Since my family name can be translated into English, more-or-less 😉, as "Under-horse-ski", then "stables" seem to be perfectly adequate word here 😄 😄 😄 )

Welcome, Thomas! I took the photo-etched net (1,5 x 1,5 mm) filled certain squares with CA glue and then cut out the unnecessary pieces... quite a nerve-shaking job it was, frankly speaking...

Thank you, Jan. This is the effect of the third attempt - first I tried to make them from thin PE board (failed), and then I tried Kristal Klear glue (not too bad, but it was difficult to control quantity of glue...). Too much CA can be simply sanded away when set hard.

A little addendum: a modeling friend recently said that the Piaggo Pegna PC7 looks remarkably like a shark.... that inspired me to make this drawing.

Great progress. Compared to TAKOM, MENG has included the right component. In your original picture you can't see any grille, just the radiator and the glass cover in front of it.

Thanks @JollyRogers64. Looks like it, although I'm not too sure if it's a glass or a very fine mesh.

Hi @Airzz, for the base I use AK Real Color RC 229 FS24031 US Helo Drab, mottled with mix of Gunze C12/H52 Olive Drab and C33 flat black and mix of the olive drab with RLM22. I varied the ratios to get more tonal variation.
For weathering, I use Tamiya black panel liner, Mr. Weathering Color Grayish Brown, Sundy Wash, Ocher Soil and some weathering pigments (forgot which one).

This is a test...this is only a test. If this were a real emergency my AMS would take over. I want to see if I can do an out of the box build. So far I have almost never been able to. Wish me luck.

I think this is my first time with an ICM mold. The kit has a lot of flash and is very subtle in its markings. This creates a bit of a challenge cleaning things up because I have to stop and figure out what to take away and what to keep. But I think when everything is cleaned up it should be pretty straightforward.

I think I am becoming an ICM fan. The mold is not the easiest but the subtle details and perfect scaling are great.

There was one piece that was too big to fit. The instructions said that it was the backing for the control panel for the navigator. I started filing it down but then realized that Revell screwed up the instructions and it was actually the pilot's headboard. Now I have to repair the headboard.

Well I blamed Revell for getting the instructions wrong but when I checked the ICM instructions they had the same mistake. The piece clearly belongs behind the pilot if you look at the kit. So either the engineers who designed the kit got it wrong or the graphics department got something wrong. Either way I went with the kit and not the instructions.

The more I work with this model the more I am truly amazed at how finely detailed ICM was able to make the mold. It's incredible. I hope I can keep any of those details without the paint just filling it all in.

Tricky model?
Correct dimensions, fine and many details, discreet engraving, colorful and usable decals, I really don't know what you mean, Thomas.
Good luck, Chris.

Just lay back, grab beer and chips and watch me struggling. 🙂

I've built the old KP MiG-15UTI and Su-7. In both cases for some reason the cockpit doesn't go together like the instructions, so fit stuff before gluing. The parts count is low. The surface detailing is nice. The fit is indifferent.

Strange. I built the cockpit as in the instruction. Fits well. When dried, the instruments panel will be next.
