Hi Edouard👋😀👍.
Yes l just get cheap ones of eBay, the do different sizes, you can pull ends n spring out for barrel look, or file ends last to have a recoil cannon look.
The gun turret nearly there now....lots of sanding n filling low spot.
Thanks for looking in on build.👍👍

Hi Zbynek 👋🙂👍.
Thanks for your interest. Nice to know you had it too, l built X3 the Tu airliner and the bomber. But this was my favourite as l liked the shape and that it had floats n guns.
Got part of tail on this evening.
Keep looking in for updates 😃👍👍

Good to have you along Guy 👋😃.
Bit of fine sanding n tidying to do next then look at getting an engine effect in cowling area.
I replaced side vent for smaller one now, checked photos... and l made it way to big.
Catch you on the next steps.

Hey Mr D whats the Gorilla Glue like? Is it a clear PVA or a resin Super Glue Type? Do you use it just for clear bits or as n all purpose? Thanks in advance E.

Hi, it dries 100% clear but is slow.. to air dry ..so leave overnight.
But it's worth it as very strong. And is very neutral on paint and clear parts.
It's almost like an air drying epoxy, not harsh like super glue or poli ...very safe.
I only use it on clear stuff as it's stronger than PVA but not good for general building.. l do use it to fill gaps sometimes.

Don't think I'd trust those decals. The red stars are easy enough to replace or paint on, the bort numbers might be more of a challenge.

Mr D ... 🙂 I like too to see, how much progress my skills during the last 10 years did. Good for me is, that I own most of my model kits since I was a kid. My first plane, car and truck are still in my shelf or boxes.
Because I stumbled somehow over your wip, I checked the history of the kit. It is rally unbelievble, that those engine openings are on the bottom of the motors. Amazing. I wouldn't notice that without your hint.

Cannot wait to see the result. Your work reminds me of my first kit, it was a Victor bomber by Matchbox (They had a JV factory in Shanghai at that time). But hard find it in the market now.

Hi Lorraine 👋.
Glad your interested 👍 there are X2 colour schemes for the be-6 the Soviet green or the Chinese blue, l liked the blue version but could only find suitable replacement decals for Soviet.
My first kit was the Matchbox Electric lightning,.... Built it with my dad....was nice as was 3 colour plastic out the box.
The first models l built on my own were the Veb/Playfix be-6, & Tu- bomber, so nice to revisit.
Got X2 models at min I'm preparing for paint.
Yours is coming along well...."carefully work" 👍👍

I usually use Velejo or AK acrylic, but I'm going to use Tamiya on this one as it won't fit in cabinet.....and l find Tamiya acrylic is a tough paint better for wear n tear, as I'm sure it's going to need dusting now n then 🙄🤣.
The Tamiya paint turns out to be darker than advertised on the lid n chart, I've ordered a white n thinner to Tone down.
Like you I've had 2x build going on.
The Fw-190 really pop's once decals are on..... Remember the trim tabs are red....l just had paint.

As a child, I once built the kit with my father.
Very simple kit of its time. But the shapes and proportions are convincing and you really did a fantastic job with it. I'm looking forward to the finished model.👍

Hi Marko👋
Nice to hear you have good memories too, first kit l built with my Dad was the Matchbox Electric lightning, it was good as had 3 colours... think my dad painted few bits silver too.
the Veb Playfix kits l would buy on Saturday morning with pocket money it came with strange pot glue.
I built 3 or 4 definitely built the Bear soviet bomber...l can remember.
Funny you commented on this tonight......as l was just checking it over ready for paint in next few days. I've just been wrapping up my IAR-80 project.

Be-12 is not a modification of Be-6, do not mislead those who are not familiar with the topic. These are completely different planes.
The evil irony of the Russian army and navy in 96 is also unnecessary.
I can also make fun of Britain's modern army and navy.
The color from the bottom is not the same.
Photos of the Be-12 cabin can be found without problems.

A few first pictures of the 'Stratoliner': in contrast to Academy's B-17B, this kit shows a love of detail, but the accuracy of fit has gone to hell. The parts are also very roughly moulded and all have to be shaped with a scalpel and sandpaper. Nevertheless, the whole thing is great fun - the Boeing 307 not only seems to be big, but also quite voluminous thanks to the shape of the fuselage!

I like the thing with the monument.... I can already see the plaque on it: 'donated by the grateful putty industry'.
But what can I say: the C-75 arrived today.... and will soon be joining its civilian sister on the workbench.
There are a few things that I would like to do completely differently on this second run. For example, the fuselage windows: I'm going to make them from scratch out of clear film I cut myself..... that will - must!- simply look better!

Oh, an overweight looking putty queen I've missed here. But not any more. 😉
Consider clear resin for the windows of your second build. Just cover the outside of the windows thoroughly with Cela-Tape and pour the resin in (jep, bubbles are a pain). The glue residue from the tape which tends to stick to the outside of the windows after removal of the tape can easily be removed with IPA.

Michael, that sounds very appealing - a technique I've heard of but never tried. I have two questions: Can you give me a tip on where I could get the clear resin? Do you have any idea how dangerous it can be to my health and how best to protect myself? Thank you in any case for the inspiration!

I found clear resin on amazon. It is epoxy based, so standard precautions apply - wear gloves, do not expose your skin to uncured resin, over time you can gain a severe allergy. Use in a ventilated space, I do it in my garage.

I need a lot of patience with this project: the road to a result that I will be happy with is proving to be a long one! So it's only after a long time that there are a few new pictures here again: the roughest filling and sanding orgy is over, but the first layers of Alclad are still in need of touching up. Slowly, however, the end seems to be in sight, so that I can already work on building up several aluminium tones during the final sanding work. The last three pictures of this new series show such a working state.
Since I want to depict the 'luxury yacht' of the legendary Howard Hughes, the surface will be kept in shimmering and polished aluminium tones, similar to what I have seen in pictures. By the way, I'm going to completely rebuild the fuselage windows - so don't worry about their rather wild appearance! 🙂

I had a lovely time reading your comments! Gap-ology as a course of study, which all modellers will probably take at some point, meets with my fullest approval! 🙂 Well, the idea of 'getting' a model out of the filler probably also coincides with an experience that many modellers already have had....

Wow, that fit is amazing. So crisp, so clean. No filler needed at all. Goes together like a perfect snap kit. Bandai's got some real competition there... Or NOT. Roland you're doing a great job. Gap-ology. Love it. You know your starting to get good when a model like this becomes normal. I truly find them the most satisfying because when they are finished and look great you know it made you work for those results.

I agree. I am a member of the non aligned movement. I only build kits where the parts do not align.

NAM - the "Non Alignment Movement" - has a new disciple: it is indeed very satisfying when a roughly correct shape emerges from such a pile of polystyrene and putty- thank you Skyhiker and Ben! 🙂 However, I realise that this is not for perfectionists, a few compromises and acceptances have to be made....
I learned another lesson in modesty here: it's not a good idea to assume that you can optimise the sequence of building steps by being so cool. Then you can end up like me here: because I wanted to simplify the not very visible equipment of the landing gear bay by leaving out parts, I got myself into a bit of a mess. Now I have to improvise in order to mount the undercarriage in a stable and safe manner. One of the ways I did this was by drilling a piece of wire - and a similar piece of wire to get the resin tyres stable on the undercarriage leg.

Thank you Michael, I'd like to hear that! The resin wheels are bought in - actually a B-17 part.
In the meantime, the fact that I've been working on the kit again for the last few days has borne fruit - I had to force myself to do it.... 🙂 But now it's almost done; tomorrow I want to apply one last coat of Alclad colour and then start rebuilding the windows. I'll show you a few -not quite up-to-date- pictures of Haoward Hughes Stratoliner

Finished at last! A somewhat complex build with a result full of all kinds of compromises - but at least a nice big model 🙂 -and a legendary model at that: Howard Hughes had this aircraft converted into a 'Flying Penthouse' so that he could fly round the world in luxury in the summer of 1939. Unfortunately, due to circumstances, nothing came of it...
The (few) decals were a dream to work with - and I learnt a lot for number two: the Stratoliner as C-75 in the USAAF's livery is waiting in the stockpile!
Thanks for all your interest and motivating comments!

The first problems arose today when I tried to install the frames. There are no markings or reference points for this. So it was a case of guessing and sanding. And then I forgot to take a photo of it... It'll come.

I added some pics before I will glue the fuselage together. So you can see, it fits pretty well. There are tiny little pins and holes, some of them I had to remove for better fitting. Even the big part from the wing fits very neatly.
This is not my first Williams-kit, I built the Curtiss Commando, the Martin B-10 and the Northrop Gamma. I never had an issue with those kits. The instruction sheet is another theme: The pictures are just a possibility what you can do and the rest is plain text. You cannot compare those old kits with new, modern ones that come together as LEGO 😉

Thank you Mona, that must have been a terrifying experience. The idea would be a fortified position in the Mekong Delta. I'm planning to build a sandback bunker and a piece of ricefield. The M113's will be stationary in a defensive position. Soldiers will be relaxed not knowing what is coming. But the layout is still evolving. Haven't decide the size of the groundwork yet. I'll be starting the diorama base soon... Will be continued 😉

It's all in the prep work, Peter!
I'm curious to know though, will the black, also accentuate the panel lines?
For example, the doors, hood and trunk, gaps? Or, would you tackle that later down the line? Or even just leave it as is, and let the natural light, do its magic?

Mate, recently I've done more rubbing, than Aladdin's girlfriend!
Large resin models, and OCD, definitely don't come hand in hand!
I have to stop, put it down, and do something else, just for my own sanity?
In the UK, we used to use a black paint, on the sills, called Tetrosyl. It was bitumen based, and prevented rust. However, it had the reverse effect, and trapped water, then made your car, rust to death! Now I just use roadkill. It's not as brutal, as the Tetrosyl 😉

Kyle, I am trying to replicate the colour and just cannot get the right saturation. Shade is fine, colour is fine but the best I can get is a bit dull. Never mixed my own base colour before. I have spent way too much on paint now so will have to "run wot I brung" so to speak. I'll just be wet sanding the colour paint before I 2k clear over the top. My thoughts on cars are that the finish makes or breaks the build and that most of the finish is the top of the car. Roof, bonnet and boot lid.

Thanks John! In my opinion is a good kit except for the lack of detail in the control surfaces that is easily fixed with Quinta studio 3d decals or with some masks and paint to create the details. All the rest is really good. Nice rivetting and panel lines and also very good fit.

I live in China and modelling is very much a minority hobby here. Nice to see some non-military models here. Thanks for sharing,

Great stuff! Compared to us in the EU, the visitors seem much younger. 👍
Picture 269 confuses me a bit - is model making a school subject in China?

Yes George, Modeling is a relative minority hobby here in China. Comparing to military model or civil model, Anime and manga model is more popular, like GUNDAM or Garage kits. But I do see more and more new brands and new products, and more young molders.

@Erik, Indeed, the history of models in China is not long. In the late 1990s, Matchbox and Bandai established joint venture companies in China and introduced model kit products into the country. Therefore, most model enthusiasts in China are under 40 years old.
And picture 269 is from National Youth Model Championship which is organized by the government. Actually this Shanghai New year model contest also sponsored by the government since year 2006.

I have to say that the quality, both in execution and complexity, of the figures is one of the best I have seen 👍
