Oh no, I leave the site for a few days and attract onlookers! 🤣….will post some shots soon…the detail's good so far for 72nd….

1 11 February, 02:28

@Lorraine, yes - these planes weren't built for comfort….champagne for every successful mission return though?….
1 11 February, 23:12

I think one of the worst RAF planes for relative combat losses to number flown? Slow and defensively weak. I never built this as a kid, so intrigued by this offering!
12 February, 20:48

Andy, despite this, it will look great in the display case 😉
Nice interiors 👍
1 13 February, 19:30

Let me find a chair for this one. I don't know if helps any but I find in a pitch painted tamiya masking tape works well for seat belts.
1 17 March, 05:02

Good evening Villiers, Dave and Nicolas…
Dave I admire your comment on seat belts but one has to keep the global wine industry going with a foil capped harness…photos to come!
3 19 March, 23:41

Thanks Nicolas and others, just put some more progress shots on this project. The fit is up there with Tamiya and very intricate detailed parts. Similar to the Hobby Boss Sunderland. But clearly the best Battle in 72nd
1 17 April, 19:31

Somehow I missed the beginning, but from now I will follow your build-log with pleasure and interest, Andy 🙂
17 April, 19:45

Thanks Robert, Alec, Cuajete, and David, glad to have such discerning eyeballs on the build!….managed to lose the front windshield- so trying their customer service to see if there's a replacement service….🥴😞
19 April, 14:42

@David- I hear there are many issues with Trump's 48'er?….
@Ł- so far they've come back to me and maybe able to help…I am not sure if it's me, but hunting high and low reveals no piece 🥴
21 April, 11:54

Andy, I hope you have luck with the spare parts service or finding the missing part... Maybe some day you'll find you have both.
Cheer up!
21 April, 16:49

I believe there are some vac canopies out there Andy.I personally hate vac form canopies but!!.
21 April, 17:53

Thanks Cuajete, a forensic search of the studio floor and workbench has yielded nothing….but if they will send a spare for hopefully a nominal charge, I'll be happy…otherwise it's a search for something similar and the ensuing botch-job!
@David, vac-forms can be satisfying when delicately removed and cleaned up. For the sake of a mistake it's good when companies (Rob Taurus) often give you a couple in the packet? Best of luck!

7 24 April, 05:37

Thank you, Marc ., fortunately there are some very helping pictures to be found, so just a bit of guessing will be needed 😬
1 24 April, 06:35

Having real life images is very useful during construction. A little guesswork is always necessary especially with a new vehicle that is not yet in service. I am building the same revell kit myself, but with a CV90 C-35 turret. This is not a real vehicle, but was a possible option to give the Dutch boxers more firepower. In the end, the Dutch army also chose the Pubo.
So I have both the advantage and the disadvantage of building a what if vehicle.
1 24 April, 08:51

Nice to hear, i will be following! In general the Revell kit has a good fit, let alone a faulty instruction sheet, luckily the Scalemate product page had the solution posted. Stiff wheels is a bit basic, but the price makes it understandable. Can't wait to go on, thank you for commenting!

I have been drooling over this kit since it was new, so definitely following
7 October 2024, 14:21

Yeah, I agree with Martin. This has always been a kit, I wanted to get my hands on. I actually saw the built model, at Bolton IPMS in January. Those tyres are amazing and the vehicle itself, looked almost space-like.
13 October 2024, 06:42

Thank you, Bozzer! Right now, I'm working on the equipment boxes in the back. I didn't start with the cabin. I will post some pictures later
19 October 2024, 07:16

It most definitely is, a "must have" kit, for me! I can't help but wonder, why it's not been re-released again? I can only assume, it's something to do with the licence?
24 October 2024, 21:59

It has been twice after approximately 10 years. Last one was in 2013….
25 October 2024, 05:55

It's possible to buy this kit from eBay, but it costs round about 150€. I bought the kit produced in the 1980th and the plastic is very fragile and the equipment boxes aren't well detailed and it's not possible to open them fully. Besides that, I love this kit. The overall fitting is good and this kit is well designed. If it is possible to get this kit in a bundle with other kits, it is possible to get it relatively cheap
25 October 2024, 07:22

Let's hope they release it again, soon? I read an interesting review of this kit, from when it first came out. I'll share it, just incase anyone has missed it?
25 October 2024, 16:11

My kit finally arrived. Still factory sealed and all the way from Poland. I'm looking forward to building it, in the new year. I'll certainly be creating a build log, of it 👍
Yours is looking mighty fine, and proof, that these things can't be rushed 🙂
24 November 2024, 23:15

You need to be careful with the black and white parts. I broke many of them while building the chassis

Nice weathering on both cockpits. What is your impression of the mini-art kit against the Tamiya kit?
15 March, 18:23

John, I haven't gotten my hands on Tamiya's P-47, but I've done other Tamiya aircraft in 1:48 scale and I would say that their engineering is still unbeaten. The detail on the MiniArt kits is I think the pinnacle of what is possible with injection molding, but in some aspects the kit is over engineered and unnecessarily complex.

1 29 March, 09:36

And as a Czech I was very pleased with the choice of markings on your model. 😉
1 29 March, 10:57

Thank you Ludvik, everyone knows the Polish contribution and I take nothing away from that contribution. Therefore I am highlighting the participation of other European Pilots, Commonwealth and American pilots who flew in the RAF either in or both BoF, BoB and beyond. Again thank you for your comments. 🤘🥸🤟

Oh boy, I want to see that behemoth built! I really like the products of the HPH Models guys, right now I watch one of their 32nd scale Me-323 being built on one of our local modelling forums and it's literally a solid piece of furniture 🙂
18 November 2024, 21:12

Thank you all.for the good luck, I'm going to need it! Andrezj, I saw that kit when I looked on the HpH website for their epoxy. It makes this kit look small...
Thanks also Gerrit. I hope I don't lose a leg over the course of the build!
It may be a while between updates, need to finish the F-16, then holidays approaching.
18 November 2024, 23:43

I probably didn't need to know that this kit exists! 🙂. J/k, can't wait to see your progress! This is has been one of my favorite airplanes since I was a kid!
21 March, 19:16

Thanks for the likes and comments, gents! Yes, this is going to be a lot of work and I hope to do it justice. I'm currently trying to figure out how to make the wingtips droop to 25 degrees for a more interesting look and checking out a build over on Britmodeler where a fellow did just that. It looks...painful.
21 March, 20:19

I welcome everyone to the peanut gallery, feel free to throw rotten vegetables and laugh when I fall on my face 😄
Frank I think it's the opposite of your Goblin, it would probably just about fit into the cockpit!
Ben, I certainly foresee a lot, lot of sanding and filling on this one at a minimum!
2 22 March, 20:19

Nice start of the project.... looking good, hope you have a good spray gun 🤣.
Good luck on next steps 👍👍
22 March, 21:45

The bomber crew was surprised to hear a humming noise. The flight engineer found the cause: someone had left the toilet window open and a goblin was circling around the lamp. 😉
1 23 March, 11:49

dude, you probably be better using a roller and a Costco bucket of wall paint, than an airbrush and a dozen of 10ml paint bottles.
3 23 March, 17:19

@ Never a Pro, that is why there are spraycans. Easy and quick. Gonna be a handfull. Cant wait to see the endresult.
23 March, 17:58

Yes, the thought of trim paint rollers has crossed my mind and I've been casting an eye on the cheap automotive spray guns at the local china-tool place! In reality, the primer coat will probably be automotive spray primer, something that sticks to fiberglass. I don't think Mr. Surfacer is gonna cut it for this one. I don't think much of a doodle coat will be needed since it will represent AV-1 at or near rollout. The challenge will be to give some depth to the paint while still keeping it clean overall. I suppose I could take the full plunge and represent it after the paint started to flake off during flights 1-4 and do a full hairspray chipping, but I like to hold on to what's left of my sanity!
1 24 March, 14:56

And there I was expecting a well endowed mezzo soprano on a winged hoss. Mind you, talking of big beasts that's a beaut' got a seat in the stalls for this . 👍🥸🤘
1 25 April, 18:50

You're welcome to the peanut gallery anytime Mark. Updates are slow in coming because I am currently trying to tweak the fit of the canopy over the hole that must be sawed in the fuselage. If you thought Eduargh was ill-fitting, this takes the cake! Razor saw 0.2mm or so here, block sand a touch there, add a bit of plastic card and sand that to fit...on it goes. More to follow soon!

Nice start and I feel your pain. I just finished a Hasagawa/Dragon FW190 from 1992. At the time of purchase this was state of the art. I finished it and posted the results on my page if you care to look, but I couldn't wait for it to be done. It came very close to a life on the Shelf of Doom but escaped that fate. 😀
1 8 April, 16:31

😄😄agreed ! Eduard had great box art but nothing beats a Tamiya build. Beautiful work on this one. Can't wait until the final pictures.
1 16 April, 01:24

Nick, Eduard. Nice box art, enticing, beguiling and alluring. Detail Mhmmm! Construction infuriating, decals frustrating. Still like them however. I think I have just described Marriage 😳 😅
1 16 April, 10:18

Still looks fantastic! Fortunately, it looks like the black is the most effected in the decals. I would sand with high grit (2500 or higher) paper and then paint the black... Looks great so far!
1 16 April, 15:54

Desert Marlin thanks yes she's kept her looks. You are right about the black, there was some indication on the other crosses in that grey blooms were appearing. I used a cotton bud to press them out, but unfortunately when applying solution to that cross it broke. I agree way to go high grit and paint, but I'll let them settle a bit longer. 🤘🥸👍
1 16 April, 16:49

Keep fighting the good fight Mark. Looks like the end is in sight! Nice mottle job by the way 👍

Am I jumping the gun by wondering how this release will compare to Kitty Hawk’s offering? Pretty sure that was quite an improvement over Airfix’s original but given what they’ve been putting out as of late…
17 January, 04:09

Kittyhawk might have had nicely fine moulding detail. which will be better than airfix. but i have read on various forums. And covered to death on Britmodeller. the kittyhawk was a nightmare to build with bad fitting parts. Zimi models have aquired kittyhawk. so their entire range may work its way back out again
17 January, 13:36

Gotcha. I've had a copy of KH's GR.1/GR.3 in the stash, but it just hasn't progressed onto the build stack. I'm sure I will pick up a copy of this release as well. Damn OCD.
2 20 January, 06:36

I would have been interested in the proposed 1/32nd Jag they were planning on releasing. But I think they were already in financial difficulty at that point. And never made it past cad renders
20 January, 16:27

I've got the KH Jag in build atm and although I would say I'm a competent amateur modeller the KH Jag goes together OK.
3 19 February, 17:46

Mike, are you not happy with the latest Airfix kits? I think they have done some fantastic work over the last 10 years.
2 10 April, 06:24

Well the verdict is in. Most reviewers are saying this is the finest airfix tooling to date. And the scope of aftermarket accessories will only further improve an already spectacular kit. God help my wallet when I want 8 of these
5 10 April, 15:25

Apart from all the flash on the undercarriage retraction jacks etc. a poorly fitting clear chisel nose piece, and no options to do flaps, slats and undercarriage up its an improvement. As for finest kit, well seeing as i paid for my kit and the reviewers probably got theirs for free, i'd say no..far from it.
18 April, 19:20

I HAD the Kitty Hawk kit and did a trial fit and quickly rid it from my collection. The fit was so bad I then went through all of my other Kitty Hawk kits and most of them were dreadful fitting as well ... T-45 gone, Super Etendard gone, Dauphin gone, and F-35A gone. I almost got rid of 2 Su-17M4 but decided I could use them for spare parts for another kit - their fit stinks to high hell as well. It can be no surprise why Kittyhawk went out of production. Kinetic is probably just as bad.
1 18 April, 19:53

On the contrary, Felix; I've picked up three or four of their newer kits & absolutely like what I've seen. I currently have the Kitty Hawk Jaguar and was merely wondering if it was worth putting it up for sale & getting an Aitfix version on order. I think they did amazing updates on their Vulcan & Buccaneer kits & I have no doubts thetve done as good, if not better, a job on the Jag.

How do I delete my picture? It keeps getting posted upside down.
24 April, 15:36

Sometimes the camera orientation code overrides the display orientation.
If you go to 'Manage' and then 'Advanced options' you can change the orientation of your photos. No need to delete.
25 April, 06:19

i think that Philip is talking about profile picture, not picture in Albums, so "manage" and "advanced options" will not work this time....
the issue probably is with the EXIF data stored in the original picture. I would suggest to use some photo editing program to rotate and export the picture , so all the EXIF data is not included, and that may resolve the issue
25 April, 23:35

or maybe take a new picture and upload again, that should remove the existing one.

Good progress so far! The canopy looks great, what approach did you use to get the nice tint?
23 April, 18:47

It's highly diluted Tamiya clear green sprayed from a somewhat long distance (about 12cm). It takes many passes and you can get a very subtle tint
23 April, 19:19

Got this kit in my stash too .... so following 🙂
And nice to see someone else who also mounts the gear struts before any painting goes on 🙂
24 April, 21:14

I usually avoid it, for the sake of painting, but it's quite a complex gear, I wouldn't be able to assemble it properly on a painted aircraft. I normally dry fit, then decide

Ì usually do it because unpainted plastic fuses best to have a really sturdy undercarriage .... but indeed, not every build alows it 🙂

Awesome looking Intruder and the photo work is striking! Congratulations. I flew the A-6E TRAM and my last cruise the SWIP version. Only a true Intruder geek would probably know this, but the A-6 version you've chosen did not have the capability to carry HARM missiles. That didn't come until the SWIP version in about 1989. We didn't get SWIP birds till 1992 (VA-155). But the model and photo are first class.
