With these pictures I am opening a construction I have been looking forward to for a long time!
The windows are designed with Mikro Klear, the height of the ribs of the wing covering is taken back.
The kit itself doesn't seem so bad!

Hey, show us how you used the Mikro Kear. Is it on the inside side only ? or did you fill the whole thickness of the window.

Thank you for your encouraging interest! Robbie, I will be happy to do so, there is nothing to show yet, the fuselage window openings are empty - and will remain so for a while.
I have been thinking about this topic for a while now and have come to the following approach: during construction I will fill the fuselage windows with Humbrol/Maskol, the whole thing will be painted and designed until the end of construction. Only as the last building step I will pluck out the Maskol with tweezers and fill the openings evenly with Kristal klear, this material will then harden crystal clear and sit completely flat in the frame.... at least that's the clever plan! 🙂

Watch out Roland, Kristal Klear shrinks a bit actually. I tested it couple of times and it's necessary to include a little excess (bubbling out of the window a bit so to say).
Example? See my Jetstream.

Łukasz, thank you for the warning, I will take it to heart. I appreciate your interest, mates!
The term "classic beauty" really does not apply to this sight. The model maker is called upon to recognise its own inherent beauty and to draw it out! 🙂
However, the kit is not bad at all! In any case, I greased off the ribs of the wings, which I think is an improvement.

Feel welcome Carlo 🙂
So, this bird is really fun! I am now in the process of sanding down all the "ribbing" on the support and other surfaces and filling and trimming the glue seams. I can hardly wait to see what the next steps will look like.

Let's see how this one turns out: the black is the gundish for Alclad's aluminium, but it also serves to detect imperfections - and there are quite a few. In the meantime, I have put a lot of sanding work into the model and am now just curious to see how it looks with aluminium! Let's see....

A short update on the condition of the HP.42: the metal colours have already been applied, I am now working my way from the stern to the bow with the bracing. A tricky task in some places, but, well, quite exciting.

Fantastic outcome so far! This kit's wings look much better without ribs, I think you were right sanding them off. Rigging looks great on the rudders!

Things are coming to an end: essentially all the aggregates, cables, bracing, antennas and exhaust systems are.... mounted, in the following I will take charge of the fuselage windows. In the end, it was a great pleasure to improvise and to activate my ingenuity to come up with the right details. For example, a Bf 109 rudder weight has made a career for itself and has become the dynamo under the fuselage nose. By the way, the Airfix decals are of excellent quality.

Yes Sir! Not as visitor like last year, but with my newer models on both days as exhibitor! 🙂 Very nice to meet you there 👍
BTW, also in Ried three weeks later.

Well, it's done! With 1:144 projects I always feel the need to write that it was the "smallest" project so far- but the miniature was actually exacerbated by the fact that here the issue of bracing and struts was added.
The Airfix kit seems to me to be a surprisingly good starting point, but one has to be aware that it has a few basic structural flaws. Apart from that, I am satisfied with the progress and the experience gained from this finger exercise. Your interest and comments have motivated and informed me - thanks for that, mates!

Your comments really please me - thank you for them! I am currently enjoying these long known kits- to be honest I have been following the Airfix HP.42 since my early teens- and your positive reactions motivate me further to venture over more of these kit exotics. For a long time now, the HP 0/400 in 1:72 has been on my mind.... Thank you all mates!
Łukasz, with a 72 HP.42 Heracles I would of course be there in a heartbeat! 🙂

It was a pleasure to meet the builder and to see this little biplane with my own eyes last weekend in Ergolding 👍 It was much smaller than it looks in the pictures!

very beautifull thank you for sharing. One day I would very interested to follow step by step 1/144 build as it is not common and may require specific solution ?
26 September 2023, 13:29
Roland Sachsenhofer
Thank you for your kind comments! That's true, 1/144 construction steps are not seen too often- and the scale no doubt requires a specific approach in some corners. I hope I can serve with this on the few 1/144 projects of the past- and will gladly do so on future excursions into this scale 🙂
