Hawk Mk IX
Started with the cockpit area. Masked the front of the windows and sprayed the back of them with Mig One-Shot primer to black them out but keep the shine as I did with the Eagle.
Glued in position with Revell's Contacta Clear
Glued the cockpit section into the main fuselage...
Then assembled the main fuselage. Lots of tape to keep it together while the glue sets and there's going to be a lot of seam work to tidy up especially on the nose section.
As expected there's a nasty seam on the nose section that'll need some work.
Tape used either side of the seam to mark where the filler is needed.
Tamiya Basic Putty spread over the seam with a cocktail stick.
A bit of sanding and polishing then a coat of primer and that's much better 🙂
Fuselage primed with Mig One-Shot Grey.
First batch of sub-assemblies made, filled and sanded and primed as well.
Starting with the front "Winglets" and painted the base coat White-Grey with the missile warheads Medium Gunship Grey.
Plan is to make up and gloss coat these subassemblies with decals and gloss ahead of the assembing them onto the main body.

Bit of masking on the Missiles.
Painted Orange and masking removed.
Winglets decalled, assembled and clear coated with gloss.
Nacelle noses, painted white grey and masked off where the white needs to be left.
Masked the Nacelle main bodies. I'm going to paint the stripe around the body as the decals are a very different Orange to what I'm painting so that'd look odd.
Some fiddly bits that need to remain white on the Orange part so used liquid mask for these.
Nacelle bodies sprayed.
While I wait for the Nacelles to dry, I've primed all the Engine parts gloss black ahead of metallics.
Engine parts get a coat of metallic steel
Nacelle engines get some detail painting with Gloss Black, Medium Gunship Grey and Gunmetal Grey
Nacelle noses glossed and masking removed.
Nacelles completed. I haven't stuck the engines on yet as I don't want them to be matt coated. They'll wait until the end.
Nacelle "brackets" have been painted, glossed and glued on ready to fit to the main body, after decals.
Main fuselage gets a few coats of White-Grey. Top view
And bottom view of the fuselage.
Decals added to the nacelles. Here's the top view

The nose of the main fuselage is next for a coat of Orange so started by masking off the window areas.
It needed a curve across the top so I used the base as a template to cut a curved section out of the masking tape.
Fitted to the top of the fusealge and yes, that looks good to me.
Competed the nose masking. Here's the top view.

Also masked up the engine section ready for Orange. Used tape and liquid mask on this bit as there's some small 'fins' that need to stay white and they're too small for tape.
Masking removed and some touchups and painting of the Engine pipe with Metallic Steel and the base coat on these parts is complete.
Another view of the nose and engine.
Gloss coated the main body ready for decals.
Decals applied to the top. Here's one side.

Gloss coated over the decals so here's the first set of sub-assemblies and various pipes/greeblies all ready to go together.
Assembly so far. I fitted it to the stand to allow the glue to dry with everything in the correct positions. Here's one side.
Assembly so far, the other side. I did have one "disaster" with some pipework on the engine but there's spare ones of those so I'll try again being a pit less "heavy handed" next time 🙂
Last parts get a coat of primer. One-Shot Grey for the pipework and Gloss Black for the engines along the bottom.
Pipework has had a few coats of white-grey then a gloss coat and the underside 'engines' have been painted black.
Before the pipework went on, I added a small bit of dirt with a Starship Filth oil wash, makes it easier to cleanup when the pipework isn't in the way.
Pipework fitted to the bottom. Plan is to add wash to this whiile it's glossy and get everything done and matt coated then fit the metallic rings around the 'engines' ahead of the last bits of work on the top.
Wash has been cleaned up and the bottom gets a coat of Matt varnish.
Fitted the metallic parts to the engines so that's the bottom complete 🙂
Close up of the front section of the underside. Small bit of silvering on the decals but it's only noticable at certain angles.
Close up of the aft section of the underside.
The top of the main body has had the same Starship Filth wash, cleanup then a matt coat. Ready for the final bits to be added.
Spine pipework gets it's decals, a wash and a matt coat.
Directional thrusters fitted.
Spine pipework fitted.
The big engines fitted as well.
Last part to be added. It's had a wash and a matt coat but I think the panels will look better with a gloss finish so I'll hand paint some Pledge/Future on them before it's added which will be all there is to do 🙂
Panels glossed so that's the painting complete 😄
Fitted the last part and we're all done! Pretty 360 against a plain background to follow......

Had a brain fart back in 2022. When the kit came out, I was puzzled, because I already had the 1/72 kit. Then I realized, OH, It's 1/48 Scale! Bought it in a heart beat.

Calling this one done! A very enjoyable use of my time for a week off work 😂. Thanks for the likes and follows, hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

Fancied a change and as I'd enjoyed building the Space 1999 Eagle Transporter from MPC (Eagle Transporter | Album by Squack (1:48)), here's the Hawk Mk IX in the same scale to go with it.
