Tiny decals for the gauges in the door. The bottom right one folded in half so that one is hand painted.

The engine/transaxle assembly. This went together easily and was quite easy to paint.

SMS Super Silver and Tamiya Silver for the discs. Tamiya Metallic Grey callipers. Tamiya Titanium Gold on the other bit attached to the disc (is that the hand brake?).

Chassis, cabin and engine all assembled and waiting for some fancy bodywork. The hole just behind the radiators is for the little rod that pushes the headlight covers up.

255/45ZR17 tyres on the front. There's a tiny Jaguar badge in the middle of the wheel nut. 345/35ZR18 tyres on the rear.

Headlight covers in the closed position. They tend to sit a little bit cockeyed. The right cover (left in the photo) sits a bit low usually.

Headlight covers open. Something is catching on the mechanism that pushes them back up and stopping them from sitting down completely so the rod on the underside is held down with some tape.

The metal "JAGUAR" stickers look nice, but what a pain in the butt they are to stick on. Maybe it's because they are over 20 years old (probably more like 30+ years). They stick to the backing tape very well, but don't like sticking to the paint. After much teasing to get them into the right positions, I put a couple of coats of Deluxe Materials Looks Like Glass over them to seal them and stop the edges from catching on anything that went near them.

Thanks everyone. Christian, it is definitely a revelation when you put the clear coat onto the colour shift paint. This one has the same colour shift as the Nissan Skyline in my albums, but that one was on a gloss black base. It's good fun experimenting with different base colours to see how the effect shows up.

You've made a terrific model, David, the paint finish is perfect, but, come on, one of the most beautiful cars ever built? Just take a look at Jaguar's back catalogue - C Type, D Type, E Type, XK 120, 140, 150, Mk1, Mk2, Mk10, to name just a few, all more beautiful than this British Leyland monster. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I guess.

George, I did say "one" of the most beautiful, all of the other Jags being right up there with it. My favourite would probably be the XJ13. The XJ220 is not a British Leyland monster. It was built while Ford owned Jaguar, and it was built by TWR anyway. I'd rate it's looks as far superior to any other supercar of the day, and probably any supercar of any generation.

Hi David, you're right, of course, but the design and concept happened while Jaguar were part of the British Leyland empire. The v-12 engine and four wheel drive were dropped to a turbo charged V6 and rear wheel drive due mainly to financial constraints, and many people cancelled their orders. Didn't the Metro 6R4 rally car use the same engine?
