Hi Ingmar, you're at home with different kind of kits and scales. You're right - the Atlantis is impressive and well executed!

Nice and very decorative. Hard to believe that the Shuttle program is already history. 😮 🙂

Thx!
As with many other subjects. As you build, you search for references and familiarize with the topic. Most of the times you learn something new... and that's one of the nice side effects of our hobby.

Very nice job! I attended NASA "Space Camp" in Florida with my son when he was 10, and we were able to visit the building where the shuttles were repaired and maintained. I was quite surprised when I saw the appearance of the tiles. There is a huge variation in color, and they appeared to me to be very uneven and rough. But at the same time, it appeared very functional! It was a great opportunity for my son and I! 🙂

I had a look at the Buran in the museum at Speyer last year. My first thought was: "It looks like a cheap mockup!" The outside is so uneven and the tiles look cheap. But every detail picture of the shuttle has the same look. So I gues thats a kind of understatement. How can we make a multi billion Dollar spacecraft look as it was a bargain... 😉

I agree - when I first saw a real shuttle, I thought it looked like it was made from cardboard! I forgot to mention that the coolest part of Space Camp was seeing Columbia STS-50 landing at Kennedy Space Center. You knew it was in the area when you heard a double sonic boom (one from the nose and one from the tail). Very steep glide angle - perfect landing (or it looked that way to me!) They bussed us Space Campers over to the press stand area for the landing. Cool!

Hi Bill, I now someone who would go a looooong way to see a shuttle launch or landing. Sadly that era is over. But maybe the future will see a new orbiter. And who knows... maybe we can go on a space cruise someday. Till then we have to find solace in our models 😉

nice job! it looks brand new. I going to weather to hell outta mine maybe weather it with grey and black pastles or ash! for that re-entry look!

You could try to reproduce re-entry marks with the help of a blast furnace or a blowtorch 😄 😉

Now Burkhard i don't want to over do the weathering too much!!! 😠

It looks a bit cleaner on the pictures. In reality it looks more weathered. But I didn't want to overdo it, so I held back a little. But I'm looking forward to see your approach.

Album info

The Kit is not the newest. There are many fit issues and the panel lines do not fit pictures or the decals. It was a quick build and will be a gift for a space enthusiast. Besides all the issues with the kit, it was fun to build and looks impressive from a little distance.
