Leigh SmithI have vallejo air paints that I have tried mixing with thinner or water. When I put them onto the kit (after painting) they always stain the patch I touch instead of being fully drawn into the cracks. I add satin finish to the paint when I apply it, should I be applying something after painting before wash?

Yes you should!
Try to make the surface as glossy as possible! Future or Gunze or whatever should be applied before the wash. And please mention the base color coate. Is it enamel, wash with acrylics. Ist it acrylic, wash with enamel or oils!

been getting back into this hobby - still getting used to new tools, paints and techniques. I am struggling with the black wash (into the cracks etc) and also transfers seem to be very hit and miss when I have applied them. Any tips on improvement welcome - picture quality a little low, poor light forced me to use the flash.
