I can't remember the prices on the Hetzer and the Tiger I. If I bought any of these kits, would they be worth building/opening at all? Or better as collector's items?

You really might consider to buy some of these, even if you don´t build them yet.
Also you can sell them on Ebay again. I´m wondering how many of those treasuries are in any small hobby shops around the world and people are looking for them but can´t find them as they are not offered in the www.

I have very different take on this. First, E-bay shattered the illusion of scarcity of most kits. With the, prices took on wide ranges, many kits once listed in the $30 range could be won for $5. With the aging of those who purchased thes kits in the 50s & 60s, supply will increase and demand will decrease by 2020.

Agree with you partially, Phil, but I do also think that there are for sure many old kits in collectors' stashes that will never be build and are hided over decades. Why not selling them online for a reasonable fixed price (not the 200$-offers you can find there...) to make them available for others who might build them. That Testor's M110 for example I would build right away...

I think these old boxing are best stashed and not built. If you really want to build an age-old kit like these, why not look for a modern reissue?The decals will be more useable anyway.
If you want to build this kind of vintage kit, it'll be better to make an out of the box build, using the tools available back then.
the worst thing to do will be to disguise its old age by using aftermarket items and enhancing the kit to something more XXIst century. (Even if the result is splendid,as a Liberator shown here recently...

Matthias, I think we are making the same point. I m saying that buying old kits with the idea that there is an increase in value on the horizon is less likely. Buying to build or to have for the enjoyment of the packaging is an individual choice. I was merely trying to say that it is not an investment strategy in my opinion.

I see what everyone is saying. I have problems building kits designed in the 60s, I don't think my personal abilities would do them justice, and then the kit is lost and no nice resultant model. haha. I might still grab a couple for my own collection and keep them unopened just as a thing to have (not a financial investment).

Matthias, I got the Monogram Typhoon! It's cool! I also think I might build it. It looks to have been molded when the molds were newer, and so things that I have found with the more recent castings aren't there, ie. propellors not fully full of plastic, leaving them deformed, etc. The fuselage looks like it may actually mate together. I also picked up an Academy Spitfire and I'm really excited about that one, the Academy b-17 I have (and screwed up) built really well.

They are, around $35-$45. I had the Tiger and the Hetzer in my hands, but changed my mind. :-/ I looked in the opened ones, the moldings seem great, and detail ok. (considering my zero experience building armor)

I have two, a Wespe and a half track in my stash, they hold their own against the new stuff in this scale...the figures included not so much 🙂
