Geneseo NY Airshow 2014
Westland Lysander.
I missed the ID on this one - can someone fill me in?
Stinson Reliant - check out the detail shots later on.
Rob Holland MX2 aerobatics. This guy is amazing!
P-38J Lightning "Ruff Stuff" flight demonstration.
Nice to see the old warbirds doing some aerobatics!
P-51 "Quicksilver" - the aluminum on this plane shines like chrome.
P-51 "Never Miss"
F4U Corsair "Sky Boss"
Warbirds line up for a missing man fly-by.
Beautiful!
"Whisky 7" just back from its trip to Normandy for the D-Day commemorations.
"Canucks Unlimited" C-47.
De Havilland Mosquito - an eight year restoration project!
Amazing workmanship by the guys in New Zealand who restored her.
Two mighty Merlins!
I assume the guns are replicas...
Port main landing gear from the front.
Port main landing gear from behind. Love the mud guard.
Flight crew preparing for their demonstration flight.
Moving the fans back prior to engines starting.
Geneseo also had a nice display of antique cars.
Close-up of the port elevator and trim tab.
Moving out - and I am just about to get hit with the prop wash from two Merlins!
Taxiing for take-off.
B-25 Mitchell crew get ready for their flight.
Nice nose art - available as model decals I wonder?
A-26B (B-26B) Invader - airworthy, but I have yet to see it fly. Always on static display.
Mossie in the air! Never thought I'd see this! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Movie replica of a Val dive bomber - converted from a Vultee BT-13 Valiant. Take a good look - the cowling is dark blue-black!
Bombing with watermelons!
An-2 Colt - I missed its flight demo.
P-38J "Ruff Stuff"
Port exhaust stains were white...
...and the starboard stains were tan. Why the difference?
Sky Boss nose art
"o'er amber waves of grain..."
P-51 high speed low level strafing run!
P-51 Quick Silver
Who is "she?" The lovely lady or the ordnance?
TBM Avenger torpedo bomber.
The young lady was applying her makeup when I was taking her picture with the Yak-52!
Some close-ups of the Lysander. Love the spats!
Something about the target tug paint scheme - I love it!

Mahogany instrument panel and leather interior!
Chrome boarding ladder.
Beautiful workmanship and lots of chrome.
Stearman PT-17.
I missed the ID on this one - can anyone fill me in?

Stearman flight line.
Several T-6 (Harvard) examples were at the show.
Where would we be without vendors selling us cool stuff like this?
Whiskey 7 fly-by.
Canucks Unlimited fly-by.
Whiskey 7 paratropper drop. Same jump team that went to Normandy this year.

Hi Bill, Geneseo? I have been there 1996! This was the most remarkable foreign-trip before the Australia-journey with my wife 2005! There is a private Aircraft Museum with an Invader. Is it still here?

Hi Bernhard - yes the A-26 is still there, and I've just uploaded a picture of it. Geneseo is about half an hour drive from my house, so I get to go to the show every year! This year's show was very good, especially with the Mosquito flying! Check out all of the pictures now that I have them all uploaded. Cheers!

For those who don't know, the air show in Geneseo, NY is put on by the 1941 Historical Aircraft Group, which is, as Bernhard said, a private club that is dedicated to preserving and restoring WWII aircraft. Their museum is open to the public.
The club's C-47 (W7), that is shown in the photo album, just returned from its trip to Normandy for the D-Day commemorations. W7 (Whiskey 7) actually participated on D-Day, dropping paratroopers behind enemy lines in France, so I think it was pretty cool for it to fly back over to France this year.
We are also quite close to Hamilton, Ontario and the Canadian Warplane Heritage. Many of the aircraft that participate in this show every year come down from Canada. This year, we had the Lysander.
The big star of the show was the Mosquito, which is now flying after an eight-year restoration at the Fighter Factory. Looking closely at the Mossie made me think that it probably wasn't in this good of a condition when it was brand new back in the 40s! It was a beautiful restoration.

Bill, thx for the invitation. My wife and I we would like visit USA !!! because we found this (your) country fascinated (or fascinating, sorry it's late night with us and the Chardonnay was köstlich). At the moment Alex is too young to get on a plane for hours..... Maybe in a few years.

Hi Jamie - I'm afraid there are no flying examples of the Val dive bomber today. The plane at this show is a replica Val that was converted from a BT-13 Valiant for the film "Tora! Tora! Tora!" back in 1970. I believe they made nine of these conversions for the movie. T-6 Texans (Harvard IV) aircraft were used to make replicas of the Zero fighter and Kate dive bomber for the movie. Several of those are still flying too.

Thanks for sharing Bill. Great photos of them on the ground and in the air. Must have been nice to see all of that in one place. It is within range of a trip from Toronto, so maybe some day I can check it out.

Thanks guys! 🙂
Alan, it's an easy drive from Toronto. Plus, it's right at the start of the Finger Lakes region, home to the all of the wineries and vineyards. Beautiful area for a short getaway.
