Besides the Blackburn Roc a second turret-fighter will be build. This superb new tool Airfix kit is quite impressive from the start on! Look for an example at the fine, crisp- and not overdone- panel lines...
Construction seems effective and reasonable- I am really looking forward assembling that potential gem.

You are right- Airfix did superb work on that nice little kit! You see a few construction steps for the cockpit/ interior. Anyway the cockpit details are okay, I recommend Eduards interior set- you can see most of the placards and the fairing of the wheel-wells side in place.
In reality it comes even better- my pictures are of..... rather poor quality I have to confess 🙂

Thank you guys! Today, I could mask the canopy parts and sand all the glue seems- not much to do at all, considering the near to perfect fit of the parts.
The next day will see a flat black coat for the interior parts of the turret and as a primer for a layer of Alclad "Dull Aluminum".

That´s motivating, Stephan!
Two steps further: I got all the clear parts masked- thanks God for St. Eduard! 🙂- and managed to spray a first layer of gloss black, after getting the peculiar British interior green on the canopy parts.
This black coat will serve as a primer for Alclad- the Defiant will show some wear and tear, so I am preparing that.

Is it just me or do the panellines look like the good ´ol Airfix trenches?

Looks really nice and also nice to see that you will do some weathering on this Defiant. 🙂
Will give me hopefully some ideas when I will build it😉

Holger, I never held the old Airfix Defiant in my hands- and my 1:72 scale experiences are restricted, but for me the recessed panel lines seem ok. Maybe it´s worth looking in some reviews for a estimation- this little bird should be well appreciated and commented!
Soeren, I will do my best; there are pictures of night fighter- Defiants with well maltreared surfaces..... 🙂

"Maskol" has been applied for parts of the Alu to shine through the black paint.

The decals have been applied- and the Maskol has been rubbed off- the result can be seen on the first two pictures.
The abrasions did get a little bit rough for me, so I sprayed black paint over the Alclad-areas and reduced the effect- now I think it´rs a little bit more realistic; maybe I will reduce the abrasions still further.

You can see the last steps of the building process; Eduard etched parts have been used extensively on the wheel bay, on the struts and for all the wheel bay doors.
Airfix little Defiant is a real modelling jewel -I can highly recommend for a pleasurable build!

Wow very nice work Roland. The black paint looks much life like – very well done! 👍
By the way, in relation to the Defiant I had a personal experience for a couple of years.
The strory, the uncle of one of my mates was shot down, a Ju 88, over England in 1941. A night fighter Defiant was creditet for the kill. My friend's uncle die in that incident and was buried in England. Local people took care for the grave for a long time and send some personal items back to the family after the war. During a visit with some friends inTelford in 2008 we searched for the war grave and found it on Cannock Chase War Cemetery (not that far from Telford):
cwgc.org/find-a-ceme..0MILITARY%20CEMETERY
It was a personal experience to accompany my friend to visit the grave and I was very impressed visiting the cemetary. The area is cherished well and in November, close to Remembrance Day, people place a lot of Poppies all over there – very impressive because it is a German war cemetery in England!
Cheers, Christian

Thank you both for your very kind comments!
Christian: your uncle´s story reminds us that the real stuff of all these plastic miniatures had been machines of war, all to often being the fate of their crews..... and that all those men had their lives and backgrounds and families.
Thank you for this story!

Hey Roland,
wonderful work. I really like this black camo scheme.
I hope mine will be half as good as yours! 🙂

Finished at last! Despite I had my difficulties photographing a black plane ahead of a bright background I would like to show you some pictures of this Defiant.
Thank you all for interest and your motivating comments- and a big praise to Airfix for this marvelous kit!

just saw this build, nice to see this black beauty. Interior painting of the cockpit is very goog, or is this also some prepainted PE.
Is it possible that one off the PE-parts in the wheel-whell was glued the wrong way around?

I rember building the Airfix 1/72 kit as a kid. Packed in a plastic bag with very few parts. After the build it stayed the light bleu color with some vingerprints as proof that I build it! A far cry From your beautiful model. Really love it. You stimulate me to build one my self. Perhaps the new Airfix 1/48?

Thank you both!
Bart, it seems possible- all that work in that coal-mine-dark wheel whell! 🙂 Which part do you mean?
Lex, indeed, you have written my thoughts about the urgent need to get one- or two?- of Airfix new 1:48 Defiant offer!
