So, new project, 2x I-16, 1x summer camo and 1x winter camo. The green one will have the cowl flaps open and engine installed, whilst the white one will have the cowl flaps shut and ski landing gear from Quickboost. Some assembly work already done (cockpit, landing gear, wings) and some basic paint work executed. The more smaller parts are still on the sprue, waiting for attachment when needed, to prevent them getting lost 😄

I had a lot of joy when I built this one years ago. Will follow your build with interest!

My 2 Ishak's got some attention. Fuselage halves were put together with instrument panel, cockpit floor and engine sandwiched in between. Perfect fit, nice! Next came the wings, and the putty... The wing roots presented me with a seam, approx 1mm wide. This was necessary in order to align the wing panel lines perfectly, but was easily fixed with Tamiya tube putty. The bottom seam and horizontal tailplanes just needed a sweep of Mr. Surfacer 1000, wiped off with Tamiya Lacquer Thinner and a cotton swab, so far so good. Some (pesky) masking was done, and all is ready for the spray booth. Now turn that compressor pressure down, those models are so small and I just don't want to puff them into orbit. See you later!

So, long time no see but meanwhile, we've been busy! At first, the 2 Polikarpov's received a black primer coat. Then, all metal parts were masked and the remainder got a coat of Tamiya XF-57 Buff, mixed with a little white and Tamiya X-22 Clear Gloss to simulate the fabric coverage. When dry, the fabric areas were masked and all non-masked areas were sprayed with Alclad II ALC-119 Airframe Aluminium. Easy but time-consuming...
Now a good coat of varnish to seal everything and move on!

The Polikarpov duo received their landing gear legs. One will get wheels, the other will be ski equipped, a set from Quickboost. Then I splattered some Maskol to make a start with wear and tear. Next task was to spray the underside with Tamiya XF-23 Light Blue (with a little white added). Strips of Tamiya tape were added and again a layer of XF-23 (with even more white) was puffed on, this to accentuate the ribbing of the fabric wings. Subsequently the undersides were masked completely and the upper sides received a coat of Gunze H320 Dark Green. The one who will receive a winter jacket got a fairly thick layer of green, the summer variant was coated more subtle, with various mixes of the basic green with Tamiya XF-57 Buff and/or Tamiya XF-3 Yellow to create a worn and faded effect. These are truly enjoyable little models!

Thx Urban. But I must confess something 😳 I've just found out that the fuselage was made out of wood instead of metal... 🙁 Oh well, I'm having fun, that's what counts most eh ? 😛

You can always assume the wood was impregnated with the alu paint😉

Thanks Woody 🙂 , indeed, the wood must have had a primer coat, so why not alu coloured...😉

A new year, but let's not forget our Russian twins are still on the bench and in need of attention. After they both received a coat of green, the application of Maskol was removed from the summer variant. The winter version received some more Maskol on top of the green and an airbrushed coat of two tones of white. Once dry, the Maskol was removed with pleasing result! Both kits were sealed with a thin coat of Tamiya X-22 Clear gloss followed by a (relatively short) decal session. Again a coat of Tamiya X-22 for protection and they are ready for further weathering and . . . hopefully . . . completion. Bye-bye!

It's surely getting close. I admire you for doing the dual build, am considering it for my future build (don't hold me to it 😄 )
