Pink Panther

Picked this little gem up off U.K. eBay for a measly 20 quid, made nice some decades ago but not painted or detailed.
I've wanted one for years to spray in Pink pearlescent & derail the crazy cabin so I was reluctant to customise an original Eldon or Doyusha kit, they fetch a couple of hundred these days.
Already started stripping it, made a few body repairs going to chop & section the frame to drop it a bit & hide that awful chassis rail.
Some lurid pink shag carpet is almost law.i reckon 😉

Think of all the animals you've ever heard about
Like rhinoceroses and tigers, cats and mink
There are lots of funny animals in all this world
But have you ever seen a panther that is pink?
Think!
A panther that is positively pink,
Well here he is, the pink panther,
The rinky-dink panther,
Isn't he a panther ever so pink?
He really is a groovy cat,
And what a gentleman, a scholar, what an acrobat!
He's in the pink, the pink panther
The rinky-dink panther,
And it's as plain as your nose,
That he's the one and only, truly original,
Panther-pink (panther) from head to toes!
(Doug Goodwin)
👍 🙂

HAAAAAAHAHAHA!!!!
I was gonna type that out & thought "nah, no one will know it!"
Saturday morning sat on the floor in front of the tv, watching cartoons & scoffing bowls of Sugar Puffs, life was good 😉
14 November 2019, 21:10

Lowered the body over the frame a bit, looks much better already, with the chassis frame rails painted flat black they'll be near invisible
14 November 2019, 23:13

Wow, that's an interesting subject. I think I've only seen this kit in the real once and that was years ago.
14 November 2019, 23:18

Also, slam in a search for 'Panthermobile images' - loads of 'phink photos' (interior, etc.). 😄
15 November 2019, 09:22

I saw an original film car come up for auction about 3 years ago, the guide price wasn't actually that insane at around 60k.
Think it hammered down for just over 100k, needed a fair bit of resto work too.
15 November 2019, 09:44

Weird layout... looks like a suite called the pleasure capsule in back and the driver is outside in front, wild.
And here for more facts... The car man himself Jay Leno:

15 November 2019, 12:53

I think I saw some 1:25 wine bottles & glasses on Aliexpress when I was checking one time.
That flocking question is difficult...
Chris when I saw the line "pleasure capsule" all I could think of was something from Austin Powers.
15 November 2019, 22:32

When Chris asked that all I could think of was "one in the pink, one in the stink"
15 November 2019, 22:58

Thanks for sharing that Jay Leno vid Chris, hadn't seen that before 😉
15 November 2019, 23:01

Haaaaahaha I've never been called polite Derek!
What I need to find now is a pearlescent pink base coat, or even a pearlescent gloss cost.
The orig cars had a shimmer & a light metallic fleck in the paint that looked very trick
& was typical of the So-Cal custom trends in the late 60's.
I think maybe trawl thru the R/C bodyshell sprays, loads of lurid colours & strong effects in that group eh?
16 November 2019, 10:04

I reckon that's the way to go. Having to look for, or work with, 'girly' pink paint has always been the one thing preventing me from starting my Aoshima Thunderbirds FAB 1 - there, that's gone and ostracized me from at least half the population!! Sorry!!! 😠
16 November 2019, 10:39

A Fab 1 just shows excellent taste 😉
I'm gonna check it out...... is it 1/24 or 1/32?
16 November 2019, 11:30

Yup, 1/32, but picked up with a load of extras! One day, one day.......😉
16 November 2019, 12:59

This has got to be one of the wildest things on wheels I've ever seen !

Great links Bob! I'll save them for reference, thanks for sharing
18 November 2019, 08:29

Thanks Donald!
Nigel, yeah I am. I've found a polythene Pink Panther from one of the old Corgi ripcord cars, now I just want it bigger!
28 November 2019, 15:13

Just loaded a pic up Nigel.
Now I've tried it & looking at it I don't think the scale is far off do you?
28 November 2019, 15:45

Just tried out a gloss pink on the block, it's Tamiya X-17, looks better than I thought it would.
May even spray a panel somewhere & blow some pearl clear coat over the top
29 November 2019, 19:48

Got back on Project Pink........
Laid down some Tamiya White Pearl over a Tamiya X-17 Pink base.
I didn't flat between coats & I laid it down really thick on a very low pressure.
It leaves it almost grainy but that's great for bringing out the iridescent fleck in the Pearl, I've done it on a few bike tanks before.
I'll lay down a good couple of coats of gloss clear & flat between for a smooth shine😎
15 February 2020, 18:17

Chassis got its first coat of Tamiya X-17 Pink Gloss & the differential, half shafts & CV joints got some detail thanks to Molotow Chrome & Tamiya XF-1 Flat Black.
Started chroming the sway bars, torsion bars etc
Completed chassis will look pretty good when done.
Still needs loads of scratch fabrication to be done though, headers, exhaust system, gas tank all kindly omitted by Eldon/Doyusha 🙁
17 February 2020, 15:05

Started assembling the Pinkmeister, creaky old shell is very fragile but it's hanging together ok!
Made a new carpet, looks pretty good I think, open door waiting to go on next......
21 February 2020, 15:57

Cheers lads! I'm getting in to the fab 60's groove man & everything looks trippy😎
Chris........ I tried shagpile but it was far too thick.......& in Britain 'shag' is a slang term for sex 😄
21 February 2020, 19:43

Hahaha shagtastic Bob baby!!!!!
Tim, Sod is pretty weak in BRIT speak ....... however if you'd have said fanny I would've laughed my head off 😄
Bozzer knows the score 😉
21 February 2020, 22:09

I still have to scratch build the hinged roof top piece of the side door, shouldn't be too hard though
21 February 2020, 22:12

Monkey, my American Mrs sits on her fanny, well, she does now! Lmao, seriously, we've had some laughs over things she's said, but she's now half Manc and she says Brit things to her American friends. Stuff only a Brit would know😉
21 February 2020, 22:23

Haaaahahaha!!! Mancunian humour is proper strong I can just imagine how her people take it 😄
My Manc mates live in Canada & they can't stop laughing at the reactions they get everyday
21 February 2020, 22:31

It's good fun mate. She certainly gets heads turning, both over there and here. Can't beat a Philly girl in full swing 🙂
21 February 2020, 22:35

Philly? That lot are hilarious, big attitude, huge sense of fun 😉 Wind em up & stand back 😄
Loads of my friends live in the States now plus I got loads of American friends anyway thu my classic cars & drag racing.
I nearly bought an apartment in NYC a few years back, I love it over there!
21 February 2020, 22:41

Dude, them Philly kids are tough. I have lots of mates over there. I'm back out there in about 5 wks. Fingers crossed, I make the big jump, this time next year. AMT kits for change and cheesesteak for breakfast! Homemade meatloaf is wicked and their food is so much more tasty than ours. If you ever get the chance, try Philly scrapple. It's their take on black pudding. Damn tasty
21 February 2020, 22:57

Ha! No one beats Mancs for black pud 😉
Remember Ripping Yarns?........
"Me mam used to make blackest black pudding you could get...... even the white bits were black!"
21 February 2020, 23:06

Well, scrapple doesnt have blood in it, but pretty much otherwise the same. LOL
I have always wondered, did they ban spices there in Britain?😉
Loving the build too! LOL
21 February 2020, 23:37

Cheers Donald it's not really a build, more a restoration of a prebuilt vintage kit.
Us Brits haven't banned spices, we just don't know how to use em 😄
21 February 2020, 23:47

Lol, I disagree. Spices are very current in Britain, just look at Piccadilly gardens in Manchester on a Friday night. They call it spice world now! For the rea stuff though, we have The Curry Mile. A real taste of India. On a side note, my Rogan Josh was lovely tonight, followed by several Carlings.
21 February 2020, 23:58

That vid is hilarious 😄
Please tell me they still aspire to an IROC & listen to Black Stone Cherry
22 February 2020, 10:19

So I'll stick with my heaven on earth ! TEXAS !
wideopencountry.com/..lain-state-visitors/
22 February 2020, 22:52

Absolutely ! You may have to share it with the Guns and Model Kits !
23 February 2020, 00:20

Bob, my friend always says, "If you want to make a Texan mad, say 'If you cut Alaska in half, Texas would be the third largest state.'" No offense! Just thought of it when you sent the list. It's got to be one of the only places where you can drive for 24 hours in one direction and never leave the state.
25 February 2020, 19:10

Oha! Thats the first built Pink Panther I've seen. Really cool. Well done Munky, like it. One of those kits I saw years ago, never saw one to buy since years and so forgotten for me. Thanks for sharing
7 March 2020, 08:43

Thanks Dominik! It's far from finished but so far I'm pretty happy with the result.
7 March 2020, 10:36

@ Paul ! No Offense Taken, But Unlike Alaska, we were a county before we were a state. Plus we joined the union by treaty not annexed like the other states, that's the reason why we're the only state that can "Legally" Fly our flag even height with the U.S. flag.
The Good old days en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_Texas
Munkey ! Looking forward to the unique pink piece-es completion !
