1/48 AMT/ERTL P-40F
This is the kit in its entirety. Nice molding but soft details and some flash/misalignment.
Drilled out exhaust stacks.
Temporary parts holders using kit sprue.
Used palsticard to attach exhaust/engine panels.
Big step after gluing panel into place.
Plasticard to the rescue.
Used stretched sprue to fill ordnance mount holes.
Blocked the inside of the wing for the shell ports.
Used plasticard to create additional mounting surface for wing assembly.
The alignment pins were off so I sanded them out then glued the wing - aligning it as I went.
Used sprue to correct the fuselage width.
Not too bad for around 3hrs work.
Simple detailing with panel lines (Dark Brown - Tamiya)
Added a few drops of yellow to the OD Green to lighten the panels.
Top portion is post shaded, bottom is awaiting the same treatment.
Here we are after 5hrs! 🙂
Strafing the bench!!

This was a fun build. Found instructions on Scalemates and scrounged up some old decals from the spares box. I think the markings are a mix from a P-47, P-51 and a P-39 (I think).
Had a blast playing around with pre and post shading and building up skills with the airbrush. It was nice building a bigger bird. It has been a very long time since I built in 48th scale. Hope to do it more often.
