Nakajima J9N KiKa prototype
"some" flash on the sprue
This one is a lot better
The cockpit, although a bit crude, isn't that bad at all.
Interiour green applied
The front wheel well is suplied as a resin insert, without any internal detail. Lead weights have been fixed with bluetack.
A bit of filler needed
Really AZ? Huge knock out pins on the inside of the wheel well....
Quite a bit of filler needed, much to my own hamfisted work, a i managed to make several gluestains
Small steps taken, due to the amount of filler and sanding I decided not to do the bare metal finish, but go for green/grey or the orange sheme
Canopy masked and fitted
Skid added from brass wire
Base coat in tamiya flat aluminium.
The canopy came off while air brushing, I had dropped it before I started painting, and did not notice it came loose
Picked out pannels in grey and dark aluminium.
Canopy painted in Ijn green
Decals are on
Decals are on
First weathering done
Working on the landing gear
Up on its feet, the end is in sight
I'm calling it done🙂

As expected it is quite a hand full to build, loads of sanding and test fitting, the joys of limited run kits 🙂

They are a royal pain in the*
I have used copious amounts of filler, due to me preparing one wing to improve the fit, and glueing on the other, making gluestains in the process

Following 👍 Kudos to you for taking on this (old-ish) AZ kit! I am kind of 'scared' to eventually tackle my Kikka....and I have the Fine Molds one in 1/48 😉

Indeed they are, just like the rest of this kit 🙂
But once you got the cockpit into the fuselage and the underwing joint to it, fitted the engines under the wings, glued the Gearwork and the rudders, the rest will do like a charme..🙂
Keep up the good work mate..

@ Sebastian the kit isn't that old, but being a limited run it needs extra work to get it done.
@Daniel, once it is alldone you mean 🙂

No Daniel, it will be the second prototype build by the japanese. It will be finished with some artistic licence, as the pictures I've seen do not show the hinumarus painted on.
