How did you paint the tracks without getting the paint to flake off?

I painted the tracks by a full coat airbrushing with Tamiya Nato Black, then I hand painted the 'metal' area using a blend of 50% XF 67 Nato Brown, 40% XF 69 Nato Black and 10% XF7 Flat Red, to give a slight rust look, being careful to not get any on the 'rubber' pads of the track. I then buffed the 'metal' surfaces and edges of the tracks using silver Rub and Buff via a 'dry brush' method. I did not add a clear coat or weathering yet.
