Space Fighter | Hawk BAe T1 Kit Bash!
So the general idea is to turn this into an alien spacecraft.
An easy online purchase and next day delivery... Here we are with the fresh parts ready to be bashed into something much less aerodynamic and terrestrial!
Chop it in half lads... I have an idea! Said in a Michael Caine accent.
No going back now... It's no longer a product of Revell/BAe. As you can see from my time stamps I just went with building this quick. Good or bad. Time will tell...!
Immediate thought is to reverse the wings and upturn the forward fuselage vertical giving a tall alien cockpit shape, lessening the human shaped fuselage.
Basic idea taking form. I'm gonna leave the tail as it is. Looking like the craft could house an aquatic lifeform already - maybe an Independence Day style alien?
Utilising cockpit interior as exterior detailing, tails, fuel tanks and the exhaust (inverted) as enormous cannon housing - ooh-er!
Air intakes and fuel tanks used again to add detail and bulk to main body.
Undercarriage doors used as directional main rear exhaust vents.
Working on cannon and using smaller kit pieces as general external detailing. Kinda steampunkesque it'll be maybe? I'm thinking a dark metallic for paint...
Getting somewhere now.
Used cockpit instrument panels as 'flaps' for exhausts on side of body. Seats and undercarriage components being used as detailing.
Side view. Some minor pieces of cut sprue being used for detail. I may reverse back the sidewinder missiles to forward firing.
Underside view. I'm thinking that the wheels act now as anti-grav thrusters of some sort as I decided why would a space fighter need wheels? Surely it would just use an energy source to land vertically 😉 but then who'd land in space?
Rear exhaust view. Good idea or bad? I'm happy I went against shape and turned it all on it's head, decided I'm going to only use a part of the canopy shown as clear habitat and will paint the rest.
Just using up all the kit pieces.
Side and underside view...
Front view - ooh-er!
Decided that instead of trailing sidewinders, we needed forward firing.
Underside.

Hi WhiteGlint & S M 🙂 Excellent! I've pretty much got it built already. I'll get some pictures loaded asap - hopefully tonight 👍

Yeah, started it last night. I just set myself the task of using all the parts and building as I went. Whether you'll think it looks any good or not is a different matter of course! Think a bit 'Steam Punk' in style 😉 I'll get the card outta the camera and get the piccies on here 👍

Ha-ha Robert. I get yer meaning... Yeah the threatening bit just sort of 'grew' out of the bits on the bench! Still a spaceship's gotta have a big gun, surely? I'll get the newer pics on tomorrow 👍

@David - I hope my finished product will be worthy of your curiosity 🙂 @JD - it could go either way, my spirit may be crushed or soar - who knows?! @David H - Cheers just be careful with that popcorn we're in zero gravity now and @Bruce - yeah that's one way of describing my 'efforts' 👍

That vertical part sure is curious. I am very interested how it will look in the end. 👍

Hi WhiteGlint 👍 Thanks for dropping back again 🙂 Hopefully it'll work out? I figured as there's no real requirement for a spaceship to be aerodynamic or streamlined and as another lifeform could also potentially be any shape. I thought I'd go a little bit bonkers and just flip the habitat part. Of course it could end up looking terrible!

Oh, another one, this looks promising. Now I really regret selling my hawk a little while back... This is inspiring.

I am not an expert at all, but in my eyes this looks a bit like some Transformer now 😉

I'm looking forward to seeing how you add colour and bring this ship to life 🙂

@Robert, well flattered with that as a suggestion 😊 I'll take that! 👍 @Bruce, thanks, I have actually gloss black primed it now. So likely a gunmetal paint job or a Red Dwarf red maybe? Not sure... Any thoughts? Course no matter what colour I choose it may still look rubbish!

Perhaps imagining a backstory of this ship's purpose may indicate it's colors and markings? Looks like a combat vessel for sure, but maybe the missiles are actually weather vanes or something. Let's see that black primer..😁

Building up the coloured details is making it more and more interesting 🙂

I'll likely do another (much bigger and better) kit bash again... For now I just wanted to get this album finished and reveal imagery uploaded. I never colour correct my images on here - as that's a large part of my day job, which I purposely try and avoid in my free time. However I did 'cheat' a little; not as much as I could! And quickly mocked up the front cover for this album as obviously space travel photography would be a bit difficult for me!... That's all folks! 🙂 👍

Album info
I've been inspired by Rv's album: Space fighter | Album by Hikaru (1:48) to create my own version by 'bashing' the same Hawk 1/72 kit. I'll be working this one up using all the original parts in the kit. Letting my imagination run. Creating something that hopefully looks alien.
