Next one to build is the Hurricane IIc. An Academy model from 1997, this will be OOB. 🙂

Cool subject, I like the Hurricane, as it has always stood in the shadow of the Spitfire. Gotta love the underdog 🙂

Agree Jan, I do like the Hurricane (as well as the Spitfire! ) 🙂

I just completed this kit in FAP markings…

Hawker Hurricane IIc, Esquadrilha VX, Aeronáutica Militar Portuguesa | Album by GrenadeBait (1:72)

The project was a lot of fun. The kit is relatively decent quality given the low cost, but the build sequence having the propeller on really makes other work like sanding and painting difficult, and I see you have had to mask off the propeller as I did.

My prop was fully finished when it went on so I encased the whole unit with a paper and tape envelope. It was left on until the end when I applied the final sealer overall.

For this scale and cost the cockpit detail is great but the canopy is a problem because there is no easy was to pose it open to reveal the great cockpit detail.

I'm watch you build with interest and to see where I could have done better. So far so good. It looks like a great bird. Looking forward to the markings and weathering, as I have a second kit that I plan to do in RAF markings.

Cheers, 👍

Vallejo gloss varnish applied. Decals were affixed, a couple of issues as some of the decals tore so had to be realigned. 🙂

Great build Guy...but the decals seem still out of register, no problem indeed,👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Changed the roundel decals as wasn't happy with them. ( I agreed with you Moreno, the roundels as supplied had a white border which didn't seem right)
Applied matt varnish.
Added undercarriage and cannon.
Panel washed with Ammo Mig black. (I think I left it to dry for too long as it was difficult to get off the excess). I have decided that is now part of the weathering.
Added some chips to wings and prop blades.
Added some weathering using Tamiya and Vallejo weathering powders.
I now declare this complete. The aircraft denotes a 3 Sqn RAF aircraft flying from RAF Stapleford Tawney in 1941. 🙂

Great finish Guy. My 303/Zumbach one is almost done-just fiddling with the canopy. Also taking useful reference points from your Airfix Stuka for one I'm doing too. 👍

Great finish Guy and perfect job on the new decals👍🏻👍🏻😀

It turned out great Guy. Maybe you can touch up the fin flashes with some paint, as there seems to be a bit of white showing either side.
21 November 2021, 15:55
Guy Rump
Thanks Jan, Unfortunately, the decals provided had white showing on the upper wing and tail flashes. I replaced the wing ones with roundels I had. A good point though! 👍

Its always disapointing when decals are out of register, we've all been there. Seems a shame on such a lovely paintjob.

Charlie Spitfire
love the detail

Thanks for your kind comments Jan and Charlie. @ Jan, I agree, the decals weren't the best. I'll see if I can dig out replacements for the tail. I'll get back to you. 👍

Looks good. Like the weather; especially around the casing ejection ports 👍
I built my copy in FAP service, so I did not use the kit decals, but I had a look at mine and they are not that great either. Generally I have found the Academy decals to be ok; not bad, but not good either.

I recently did an error applying decals on my Spitfire and I easily found some spare in the Italeri box. They are quite common, but it's to be considered if they worth the effort

Replacement decals have now been added to the tail. I think it has improved the look. 🙂
