French barn
Once I knew the dimensions of the barn I made a series of sketches for the front face. This was invaluable later on
Main shape carved out of coarse foam
Cut denser foam sheets to fit the blue foam and stuck on with PVA glue
Once I'd nailed the position of the barn on the base, I cut the back off
Barn on the base in position
Using my sketch as a reference I scribed with a knife
Lines were widened using some dental spatulas
Tried to smooth the back with filler but couldn't sand well enough
Used some card to cover the back, worked well
Edges filled with polyfilla
More filling
Used cheap black acryclic to prime/seal the foam and give me a unified base
Tried using diluted pva and flour to make grout, didn't work well due to the surface tension
Base colours on
Giving the different rocks/bricks different colours
Doors and window frames made with balsa wood
Scored and ripped out foam behind the window frames, these were then painted matte black
Roof shapes mocked up wit
Styrene sheet and strips were then used to make the roof panels

Roof panels were painted a dark rust colour, then ch

Glueing the roof onto the barn. This was a tricky balancing act! The styrene sheets didn't want to flex and I couldn't clamp properly due to the angles
I wanted to hide a little Kilroy, so I sketched one out and etched him carefully into one of the window panels
The window panels were weathered with acrylic washes and a cotton bud, and Kilroy was filled in with some pale enamel paint to help him stand out

My first building; used insulation foam, balsa and styrene. Lots of advice and inspiration was taken from Night Shift on YouTube.
