Soil is more than dirt

To build a diorama is something what I’ll learn to do. First to make a proper base with a solid landscape. Soil and vegetation are the next steps before models and figures will bring the scene to life.
I know there is a wide range of wonderful products to help me doing a good job. But I’m living in the country, so I’ve to order all these products by mail. Maybe this is one reason to make many things at home. Homemade, homebrewed, maybe not perfect. But it’s always cheaper than buying hyperrealistic aids. Not to mention craft fun.

I’ve learned to build soil for dioramas by the videos of Michael Riess (aka Hamilkar Barkas), member of PMC Augsburg. Using garden soil as a „Dreck-Wash“ – as he says – is very practical. That’s where I am starting.
I hope that I can brush up my skills, not to become a master modeller, but to be satisfied with the process of diorama building and its results.

If you like you are invited to accompany me.
