Hi mate! The kit is from molds of the 70's (!) and the fit and surface details are arcane for today's standards. Because of the poor fit, I had to use a LOT of filler and even more sanding. That basically erased the paneling and I'm having a hard time restoring it. Because the YB-49 was an all-aluminum unpainted monster, you´ll need to render a flawless surface to apply fancy primers and metalizer colors. And if you are a bit of a detailer like me... well it became a nightmare. The engine exhausts are vestigial in detail, the wheel wells are elemental, the cockpit is literally impossible to see once berried in the fuselage, etc... With a wingspan of almost half a meter it won´t fit inside my paint hood, so I'm basically stuck.
The wooden dowel was intended to provide support for the wing in the initial plan, as it would sit in its wheels. However, after all the complications I gave up on the undercarriage after watching the poorly detailed tires... I'll stick it to a base and show it in "flying" mode" if I ever finish the paneling!

Sorry, I have only just read your message. How are you getting on with the YB-49....did you get it done in the end? If so would be great to see some more photos. Even if you haven't finished it would be good to see how you are getting on.
